Hey all, was recently introduced to a fellow keen fisherman by my local mechanic, He was looking for a companion for a few trips. So after a brief discussion, we agreed to go early the next morning. This trip was out through the Pin Bar to a spot he had been told about. He was fishing with livies and I used the SP’s. After finding our spot, he starts jigging for bait and I sent down a SP, he tells me we are targeting Black King Fish on this trip. Having never caught one of these varieties before I was looking forward to the experience. After about 30 minutes, a few changes of SP’s and a few Trag Jew, my Shimano Reel takes off, braid is disappearing quickly into the briny sea. After about 10 minutes of a tough fighting, taking and giving line, my mate advises me “That’s a “Kingie” and he looks to be a beauty”. After another 20 minutes or so, we see colour and he is right, my first Kingie and on a SP.
With careful gaffing, the fish is onboard and I am stoked , 35kg of Black King Fish caught with a SP on 20lb braid. Much back slapping and hand shakes for the next 5 minutes as we laugh loudly at a great catch.
This was the only one of these for the morning, also caught 3 Mac Tuna at 7kg each, a few Trag Jew and flathead. A great mornings fishing with a PB to boot.
Thanks Tony for the introduction .
Cheers Mark

Not having a go at you but are you sure you didn't mean 35lb? I caught one 35kg at the start of the week and it was almost 6ft long unless you are like 8ft tall that one only looks about 4ft long :P
Well done anyways, they are great fun to catch and good eating too :)

Wow:o half your'e luck. I've never caught one myself but am keen as mustard to get one. They seem fairly common from what i can tell on this site but i'll be buggered if i can entice them. Congrats. Ben

Sounds like you had a great day out. They fight for their life don't they. Must say vertico has the evidence that its 35 lb. But still a great catch and even sweeter to chew on.

again not to bag the post but it may assist others who catch a big cobe to guess weights. This one was 33.4 on a set of registered scales.
Generally if the white lateral line is pronounced you are looking at a sub-20kg fish With the bigger ones like vertigo's the white line has faded

Congratulations rufus! Never caught one myself either so to see you do it on my prefered mode of fishing these days(sp's) is very encouraging!! Is that a smile or grimace from the effort of holding that big puppy up !?!?!
Cheers..Terry........
