Been looking for a bay tuna / med - heavy plastics outfit for a while. Finally made my mind up and went in to my local today to bite the bullet and get an S10 and a sol or maybe the new heartland 4000.

In the end got pointed towards the new Loomis forcelight 8 - 20lb (cant remember the model, maybe BSR 853:-/) and liked it alot. Nice light tip but still plenty of grunt down low. Had a bit slower taper than the S10 and is only running alconite guides but the expediture warranty is big plus. about $30 less than an S10.

Also liked the new heartlands, basically a sol with 1 extra bearing, larger main bearing and all crbb for $40 more.

Anyone tried these new bits and pieces out or have any thoughts??

Both new products so hard to get a read on them but both look the goods. One thing I do like is that both have been designed for Australian fishing conditions.

Definately will be investing in a Heartland reel as mentioned in a previous post. I think you will find Beeracudda has already got one and loves it.

Yeah i cant find any info on either anywhere. Its good to see the big internationals finally listening to what we want, apparently the heartland was made in an attempt to keep us aussies from buying OS.::)

I would imagine its going to slow the sales of sols a bit, some valuable features for only a little more $, though not real sure on the matt black body.:P

Whilst I don’t own a Heartland reel I have played with them enough. Personally I think the SOL still feels smoother for some reason.

For the price of the new heartland locally you are in the ball park for a Certate in the 3000-4000 range for OS.

Maybe the new Heartlands will get smoother as they wear in?

Cheers

Hey Lee, yeah i think they, like any new reel, will get smoother once everything beds in.

I was originally going to get either a 3500HD or a 4000 certate from bass jp but because our dollar has plunged the cost for a certate has gone up about $80 in the last 2 weeks>:( bugger, might just wait it out and see what happens in the next few weeks.:-/

Still, seeing the heartland as a local option is definately making me think twice.

Yeah I agree with the dollar. It's sort of limited my purchasing on new products as well>:( >:( .

Then again for the extra $80 you get a far superior reel. me personally, I woudl be saving the extra $80 for the Certate.

I love my 3500hd and its a work horse thats for sure.

What about looking at the Catalina. Its more suited to heavier offshore but the 4000 is a nice peice of gear and they are as cheap as from OS.

Cheers Lee, i do like the fact that the catalina's have a faster retrieve ratio but they are bloody heavy. probably overkill and a shame they aren't lighter. theres always something.:-/:P

Heres a link to some info on heartlands with some pics for those that haven't seen them;
