Hi. Thinking of putting a punt (3.6M by 1.2M by 0.45M) weighing 43kg on the roof of a new model Pajero for exploring north of Cairns.
Local Rhino rack mob reckon they have the right racks (x2) that will clamp to the runners front and back and that the 43 kg weight will be fine.
My question is are these runners up to rough roads and corrugations and will the load be distributed ok if I have the bars as far forward and back as they go with just 2 bars.
My bush savvy neighbour is pretty dubious about these runners as on rough roads the weight on the roof can equate to significantly more and has seen an older model pajero with serious roof damage with a similar set up.
Would value opinions as to this set up. I have read of folks taking off the roof liner and replacing the rails from the inside but that sounds pricey and difficult.
Kind regards
Jim

Load transfer on really rough off road tracks is significant. You should talk to the many 4x4 places around Cairns and get many opinions. There is usually a fair amount of strength in the roof between the pillars.

Thanks Snatch. A good plan ... lets hope it leads to clarity and not more confusion:)
