Hey Folks, in about a week I'm heading up to Fraser for ten days with the family :) (along with everyone else it seems) camping on the ocean side probably around the Happy Valley area, close to the attractions, and the fish hopefully.;)

I'm thinking of taking a pot or two up and leave on the western side of the island, trouble is I have no idea where to would be a good spot to go. Any suggestions please??

The kids which are seven and twins at five just love camping at the beach and pulling a few fish and I reckon a muddie or two would be nice for lunch now and then.

The kids also are a bit young for surf fishing but love soaking a bait in calm water, again the western side. Also are there yabby banks on the western side we could pump a few yabbies and hopefully catch a whiting or two as well???

Locations would be most appreciated please.

Thanks in advance.

Any Western Creek will do. It sounds as though you'll be leaving them unattended for a while so set them deep or the dingoes will trash them at low tide.

You'll be closer to Urang, Woongoolba etc from where you're based at Happy Valley - just look for side tracks a couple of hundered metres back from the mouth and start walking.

Yabby banks in Coongul - Don't take them all, I'll be there for 8 days from 28-8.

:D Best accessed from Woralie rd at low tide so you don't have to jump the creek itself. Also banks at Wathumba but one hell of a drive from Happy valley. Dunno about Moon haven't tried there in a while but there used to be banks there.

With no boat it's a fair walk at low tide to set pots in any creek from Moon north.

Good luck, have fun.

I'll be chasing a report on how the West beach is holding for weed in a week or two - Westerlies haven't been toooo bad yet - I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Craig,

There's a good road that goes across from Dilli Village and comes out at a nice spot, but I can't remember the name. It has a little coffee rock headland that has direct access to the main channel, it also has a sandy beach that holds yabbies and whiting. It has a couple of little creeks nearby but I haven't crabbed them.

From here you can also go south down to Garry's anchorage which has plenty of mangrove areas. and sandy beaches.

Good luck
