Decided to take advise from a fellow AUSFISHER and forget about beach fishing TOOLAKEA because of the wind that was still around yesterday arvo. Drove straight pass and went to Crystal creek instead. Fished for 2 hours from 4pm- 6pm. Used big prawn baits and dead and strip mud mullet. Really big runs and eventaually had to pull up stumps as the tide was pushing me right up against the bank and with no place to stand.
Bites were very small as tiddlers had a ball picking my prawn baits. Ended up catching 1 only 28cm Grunter and sent him back.
Well the 100% catch record remains in tact but the 100% keep record is buggered now after yesterdays no show. Its a fair way to go for no fish but just a great fishy looking place and a great way to spend an arvo on your own chilling out.

Bad luck with no keepers Kev. Something you might want to consider is roughing it for a night or 2, that way, you have plenty of time to fish and maybe suss out a few new spots. Planty of areas to camp, but you will need to take everything with you, there's no fresh water available nearby, and no toilets, so a water bottle, shovels and bog roll are a must.

Thats doing a bit hard Scott.
Maybe one day..................I was actually thinking of staying in the caravan park accomodation there for a night and fish the creek hard. Might wait until just before the Barra season closes as I have had some luck with barra on dead baits there before and hopefully a report will surface this year when I evevtually or hopefully catch my first legal Jack

G'day Kev,
If you've got a 4wd, try heading up the track to Insulator Creek as well. You can generally tuck in around the corner a bit from the south-easterly.
Good idea to stay in the caravan park there. Have they got some cabins?

They have cabins at about $75 per night that can sleep 3 or 4 adults

Don't worry KK. It's not long till the barra come on strong. We're already at 50% humidity through the days and climbing up even more.
As the local's say when that first bead of sweat drips down the arse crack, it's barra season!
