How much of Arnhem land can you see? I've heard it is very, very difficult to get access to most of it.

As soon as you get past Innot Hot Springs the road deteriates. Watch for road trains and make sure you have access to your spares. A stone guard for your screen would be a good idea.

gday,
the gulf track is the main track that goes from the NT/QLD border over to booraloola.

Yep, we towed a conventional bogie caravan thru there about 8 years ago. the road wasn.t that bad the roughest section was hellsgate to bourktown(really bad corrugations) and on to normanton, sections were badly corrugated. Lots of bulldust around escott lodge section to turn off to lawn hill.We came into booroorla from capecrawford .Our son has been to lemonbite says the road is rougher up that way.it is possible to go up to roper river that way and back onto northern highway.Dont know if you could tow up that way.
i know it was a while ago but from my experience they remain much the same and only get graded once a year after the wet.
hope this may help
Jim
PS
to get into arnham land i think the easiest way is thru kakadoo via crossing east alligator river at ubiri rock.Brother in law drove to meningreta?(not sure of spelling)Said road was "interesting" but ok. As someone else said take care and give "everyone" plenty of room. Also obtain all necessary permits and be aware of alcohol free areas.
