G'day All,

Well it started with the idea that me and Stuartdb would do a bit of R & D before the classic and try and hone the skills before the comp, our sons have been harassing us to go fishing together for months and it also gave us points with the missus's, so they tagged along. The idea was to troll with some Pig lures and Micro Mullets to start with but upon rounding the corner of Soveriegn island onto the 1st bank, dropping the leccy into the water, it became fairly obvious that it wasn't going to happen, the wind had got up overnight and stuffed us. We headed in to find some sheltered waters, back down Coomera River, still blowin it's head off. Decided to anchor up for a bit, re rig and get sorted. Did our best to keep into the bank and jigged SP's, tough day at the office but managed to bag 3 pups between 40 - 50cm, tried a heap of types and flavours but the pick seemed to be Berkley Shrimps in Mango Ripple and Nuclear Chicken, all fish were caught on these, still had a great day and the boys had a ball, thank God for Nintendo DS's and Portable DVD players, great move Stu putting that 12V DC outlet in the dash, not to mention the band aids with my accident prone kid!!!! Next pre fish will be more serious, hopefully the wind will be kinder to us and we can mix it up and have a troll as well, Cheers All.

we always say you have to fish in the wind as you can guarantee at least one day of the Classic will blow the dog of a chain! no reason this year will be any different.

cheers

Yeah, Thanx Marty, we said exactly that, thought we'd use the opportunity to come up with some options in case we're in the same situation during the comp, can't run and hide then!!!!

Hey mate

It's always good work to get a couple of fish in the wind. Good luck with the comp - unfortunately i won't make it this year as i'm doing a 3 night charter off Fraser Island at the same time.

Just a question - i've always wondered about Pig Lures. I have heard alot about them but have never seen one, or know where to buy them. Would anyone be able to post a pic of one and provide some info on where to get them.

Cheers

You boys going to the classic might have to work hard this year, i had a flick this morning along the banks at tipplers and in the southport channel along the drop offs for 1 little fella around 30cm, fair bit of slime around in water under 5 foot deep and a few bream about but not much else..

MJ-Apache,

The Pigs are available from a couple of Gold Coast tackle stores (Doug Burt's and either Sporty's or Nerang Disposals). Also Shane will be selling them at the Classic briefing.

If no-one posts a pic soon, I will put a pic up when I get home. They are well made lures for the price.

Alleycat,

I tend to agree - the Flatties are coming on slowly this year. And the snot weed is hanging around longer than usual - the joys of a late Winter I guess. Add a 20 knot Northerly and it will be a long 3 days!

Here's a pic of three different coloured Pig Lures - the one at the bottom is Trout and is probably the most popular.

Beat me to it Marty, obviously you got onto Shane, as I said he's a top bloke, have you got em wet yet???? I have to agree that the Trout is the colour of choice, attached is my version, note the tooth marks from a hungry lizard!!!! Wasn't in the water for more than2 minutes when it go mauled!!!! Excuse the photo, it's off my phone, piece of crap!!!!

MJ-Apache, the lures are made by local flattie wizard Shane "Piggy" Gartner and are only about 55mm plus the bib, they troll better than any other small lure I've used and get down over 2m on light braid, if you have a look at the results from the classic over the last few years you'll see they've done the damage, if you have any dramas getting hold of them, PM me and I'll put you in touch with Shane, Cheers, Jamie.

Yes, he seemed to be really genuine - happy to share a few tips too.

I'll be on the water all three days over the long weekend and the Pigs will definitely be getting a run as soon as I hit the water ;)

Thanks again

Marty
