Band of Brothers

Hello All,

The "Band of Brothers" crew are heading North for a once in a liftime experience....

Our goal is to head up to Cooktown on the Great Barrier Reef, and target Giant Black Marlin from a Trailerboat- Dennis' 2400 Caribbean- "Reel Game"

Our team will consist of 6 dedicated fisho's from NSW. Each of us have fished the reef on the Larger Boats on several different occassions.

The plan is to film the tag and release of one (or several) of the large Females- Hopefully a Grander. We will have one month to do it in. There will also be a combination of GT Popping, Coral Trout Fishing, as well as all the stock standard bait gathering sessions you get on the reef.

Be sure to look our for our blogs on our website to track our progress at www.bandofbrothers.net.au (http://www.bandofbrothers.net.au). I will also post up reports here as I go.

Thanks for reading and look forward to your feedback and support in the near future.

Regards,
Anthony

Thanks for the shameless self promotion Anthony:P Probably better to actually approch Steve ( Mr Ausfish ) for an advertising package::) or have had contributed to a few other topics first;)

Ian

Ps. Does sound like a good trip though. Smithy( Rob Smith) actually did the same thing last year on a 702 signature, he was a bit quiter about it though8-)

Mate thats a boat around 3 tonne and barely even a trailer boat. I would not put you in the extreme sports category alongside the likes of yesmad sportfishing adventures just yet.

Good trip though, and ill look out for a burnt copy or look you up on you tube.

Troy.

yeah, I'm jealous too Anthony...

Are you fishing HT from a chair or stand-up?

There are probably many that have done it in trailerboats, but probably the first to record it on film was Mal Florence ~25yrs ago in his 24' Blackfin. Some great footage for the time, think they ended up getting one around 700lbs.

F/time, did smithy ever do a trip report etc, would be interesting reading?
cheers

Hi Ian,
Did not mean for it to be an advertisement. Sorry if it offended. I will amend it to just let you now about the trip and how to track it......
I have made a few other posts on here too BTW ;)

Blue_Mako,
Thank you for your input. I apologise for not being of your standard.

Gofishin,
Have been working with Smitty and have gone through some stuff with him. There is a report floating around somewhere.

We will be fishing 80lb Stand up.

Cheers All

Anthony

Big difference between being the deckie and the skipper Troy. Not a real lot to brag about sitting up the bow IMHO mate.....

Someone has to do it Jeremy.

Id rather be on a good boat catching mad fish than on yours especially when it comes to bar crossings.

Sounds like a great trip.
I remember a guy catching BIG billfish in the 70's or early 80's out of an old 16' Clark Abelone.

Good Luck

Thanks for the well wishes, hopefully the weather plays nice.

Guys like Mal Florence where abolsute Pioneers of this sort of stuff and definitely are our idols in the adventure. If we can do half as well as they did I will be stoked!

You blokes sound soft - I'll be up there late September doing the same thing from a 5.6m centre console. Just kidding (about the soft bit but I really am going to have a crack at it). Best of luck and look forward to the footage.:)

Hi Ant,

Fingers crossed but to be honest I'd be surprised if I got a safe weather window in which to get out to the ribbons in my boat. I'll certainly be preparing to go for it but it may be a little early for the trade winds to slow down up there.

I was hoping to get some insight and help from a few of the Ausfish members who are more in the know than you can get on other sites, given many of you blokes fish the Northern regions on a regular basis. I too have fished it many times, but not as near as many as the collaborative amount and frequency you get from you guys. I apologise if this thread smells. I will get some Air fragrance and spray it around. Do you prefer Glen 20? lol

Now, on to the Fun. Who else of the Trailerboat fleet will be floating around? Would be good to stay in touch with the smaller guys.

Cam- if you get a window and want to keep in touch, let us know and I will PM my mobile. It's just not worth running aorund the GBR freelancing.
