Just Google "Sandsinkers" and maybe that will work to get to the link.

Here it is again:

Hope this works.

Even more environmentally friendly would be a sand and toffee mixture, simple boiled up sugar (could add scent to it too) and sand and cast into some form of mold. Toffee would melt out probably in about 2 hours underwater leaving sand and nothing else but a sweet berley trail.

Maybe a jighead formed this way might be worth investigating??

Clever......

Gonna be dropping me some 10 lb weights for those big blue eye and hapuka in the canyons. Missus has been moaning at me to get rid of the old socks....might just oblige.

Cheers for the great idea!

Old socks sound like a good idea, but the sand might get through the knitted fabric.

Perhaps one of your missus' old nylon stockings inside the sock?

A really heavy sinker might be made out of the leg of some old jeans?

On the other hand, some gravel or beach stones might be good inside the socks.

Have seen stones with small eye screws attached on the shelves of some tackle stores down here(Tassie).Current resistance would not be to flash one would think(spinning on the way down) but a novel idea.

Jack.

Problem with this is that I'd get hungry, eat a few, and end up getting the sand caught in my teeth :freak:

Its not the sand in the teeth thats a worry its the sand coming out the other end that may be a problem. :-[

Sandsinkers - Weight?
The idea is to MEASURE the sand after it has dried. Say: 1/4 cup or 1/2 cut or whatever. Then just use that amount.

I must admit that this "exact oz" business baffles me. I just make a bunch of sandsinkers of all different sizes and styles and choose one that seems to be the right size for the situation.

Then I dip it into water just before casting and cast over the rocks.

One interesting thing I have found is that lead sinkers have an advantage when casting INTO THE WIND but sandsinkers have an advantage when casting WITH THE WIND. Like kites they use the wind to go further. Sometimes the other folks on the jetty have been amazed at how far my kite-sandsinker goes with the wind. One guy said "How did you do that?"
