Gidday all, I don't post very often (mainly just read all the excellent posts) but I had to brag about yesterdays (Sunday's) fish at Mud.
I promised to take my wife fishing all week and Sunday appeared to be the day with the best conditions. I didn't think so though- middle tide half a moon and a westerly.
We left Wello at 5am arrived at Mud around 5:30 and promptly found a spot in amongst the dozen or so other boats. While I was preparing the berley my wife Kim cast out and promptly wound in after feeling a little tug on her line. It was a nice little bay squid on a gamakatsu 6/0 hook!! I said great whack that on your hook and get it back out. Well within moments her shimano baitrunner was screaming and shortly after a 58cm snap was released into the esky.
That was the beginning of a sensationally hot session with 10 snapper all over40cm caught by 10 pastr six. I put two over the side and we continued to upgrade and release fish till about 6:30am. All up caught about 30 snapper/squire with around 18 legal ones (only kept 10 though). It was getting embarassing catching fish after fish when the other boats around us did not seem to be having much luck.
We made the call at 6:45 am to head home with my wife pulling in another snapper. 11 fish in the boat again!!
There was a little tinnie motoring up beside us so I gave him the fish. He said he was looking for the hole to have a fish. I said don"t bother you can have our spot. Him and his mate were stoked . 1 fish in the esky without wetting a line and a prime fishing spot.
I hope they did well. Nice trip back to the ramp and fish filleted and boat washed by 9:00am.
What a fantastic morning. I didn't even get a chance to put the berley out.
Took a photo of the fish in the esky but I can"t work out how to get it from the phone to the computer , if anyone can help I can post a picture.
Who said there were no fish at Mud? Well I,m all Bragged Out!!
Cheers Ian;D

That's a hot session Ian. Congratulations on such a great trip.

What do you think you were doing different to the others around you? Or do you think it was the spot?

Cheers

Sounds like a pearler of a session.

You gotta love bagging out in an hour while everyone else is contemplating pillies for lunch.;D

Good karma to you for sharing the spot and a fish to boot.

Great to hear the girls getting amongst the fish too. The wife normally out fishes me when on the boat because I am the rigger, baiter upperer, fish taker offerer, rebaiterer and casterinnerer. Seem to have no time for myself.

The usb cable option will be the best bet. You may have to go into the setup of the camena phone and change it to bulk storage transfer or something like that. Look in the manual if all else fails.

Well Done Mate ,

I had a couple on unstoppables there on 7 inch gulps on 10lb gear in the past few weeks in a place which is overlooked. There is some nice 50cm models in the shallows as well.

Cheers :) :)

It's either a feast or famine anywhere you go, Mud is certainly a hotspot if you can time it the same as Snapper dinner bells ringing. I was speaking to someone who fishes comps, and who travelled 178km's all over the bay on Sunday, even tried outside for a while, and didn't raise a scale. That's unusual for him, so you have done extreemly well!! I hope you left some for me!

Gidday all, firstly thanks for all the positive comments.and secondly a big thankyou to Phil for putting the photo up.
The spot we were at was no secret and with so many boats around we couldn't be too choosy. So on the east side of Mud we found a gentle slope going from 18ft-22ft and anchored up. No real structure or bait shows.
Other than the suid my wife caught we were using cuttlefish and whole baby squid for bait. Rigs were shimano 6500 baitrunners (2 each) with 25lb shogun red mono and 40lb leader with size 1 sinkers and 6/0 gamakatsu hooks.
Kim my wife did actually get smoked once, she was getting a snapper off her hook when her other line exploding. I picked up the baitrunner and locked in to gear for what I thought was a good hook up. I then realised it was Kim"s rod and dutifully handed it over to her. After about a 5 min fight with the fishing getting closer to Moreton the line went limp. No fish and lot"s of swear words. My wife said I was thinking about changing that leader! The leader had snapped or been ground through- maybe the snapper swallowed the hook. Normally I find the Gamakatsus hook them in the side of the mouth so leader breakages are rarely an issue.
Anyhow we'll look for him next time.
It was sure nice to have a good trip after so many average ones this year. Why were thy there I dunno but the fishing gods were smiling upon us.
See Ya
Ian

Also good on you for disclosing the location, sounds like you just stumbled on a winner that day. Im sure there will be a lot of boats in that area tomorrow and on the weekend. I wont be one of them though, gota work.
