Welcome to the north.

I don't have any marks off Bowen as I've never been there, about the closest I've been has ben driving past to get to Airlie beach.

I'm not sure how many members are actually from Bowen, or have been there before, but my best peice of advice would first grab some free zoning maps from your local tackle shop, and if you've got a GPS plotter, get a chart card for the region, if you get the right one, it will also show the zoning in the area.

If no plotter, jump on google earth and use it to scout around the reefs/shoals, with the reasonably clear waters off bowen, I'm sure you would be able to clearly see them, and the GPS data on GE is in WGS84, which if you take the co-ords, you should be able to punch them straight into your GPS for various reefs and shoals and then use your sounder to find somewhere to drift over or drop the pick.

Also keep an eye out in the newsagents, I'm not sure what it called, but there's a publication out with a list of marks with a description of ground, fish to encounter and technique decriptions for the NQ region. Again, don't just use these mark only for a fishing spot, use them as a guide to start from and again using your sounder, read the bottom in the area, you may come across more fruitful grounds nearby.

The best peice of advice for trolling is to keep your sounder on, especially when crossing the paddock, doing this will let you find a few micro shoals, that may turn out to be real honey holes, having not been fished often.

That's about the best advice I can give for someone new to the area, hope it helps

Follow the live Trout boats. Have a look in the tank a the fish co-op Coral Trout & Crabs. you'll follow the dory boys once you have looked in there.

Was in bowen on 13th and 14th of this month, there were at least 60 to 70 trailers at the harbour ramp at 8am each day. The other ramp at the beach was packed also. I spoke to 3 different people at the harbour ramp in the arvo but got very little response. Good luck finding anything out by asking. Both of the fish shops at the harbour had plenty of spottie macks so i presume they were biteing.
To find the mack grounds just follow the fleet. I would be keeping an eye on the dory boys as well.

Good Luck.

Launch from greys bay, and head north to the mouth of the river, great area for spotties this time of year.
trolling around a k or so off the mouth, with chrome spoons.
