Howdy folks.
Been doing a fair bit of bream fishing lately but have had a few trips with some mates that have stood out of late.
Had a few sessions out on the bay chasing bream in the reefy shallows with me mate Camo and have managed a few bream, been monstered by tailor that have been steeling my top waters and also managed to tussle with some mack tuna on the bream gear aswell.
Camo landed a nice tuna of about 5kg on 6lb line which took him about 10mins to land. I hooked one of the same size on my Gekkabijin with 3lb line which was fun for 2 secs untill nearly all my braid was gone. Thought the better of it and popped him off as i like my braid more than mack tuna.
Also took a mate Broughton out for a flattie flick as he had never done too well on the plastics. On the way to the ramp his wanting to get some pillies to have a bait fish but had to pull him up and tell him No bait on the boat! Gets in the boat and i handed him a rod with 6lb line and he starts carrying on about how the lines too thin and it will snap when he hooks a fish::)
After an hour of casting and 2 50-60cm fish dropped beside the boat Broughton starts geting shirty. "Is this plastic any good? Why couldnt i bring any bait? these things dont work! and so on and so on........ Next thing he says hes snagged. How funny his face was when the snag started screaming line off the reel and violently reffing the rod from side to side.
After a little coaching and letting him know not to touch the drag about 15 times he gets the big girl up beside the boat. He was stoked to say the least as he had a new pb flattie and on a placky to boot. A few quick pics and broughty is swimming the big girl to her freedom.
Poor Broughty managed to fall in the drink back at the ramp and stuffed his phone, but still couldnt wipe the smile off his face.
Also had big Rich grace me with his presence for a weekend of bream fishin in the 3rd mini bucks . The big fella forgot he was fishing for bream and not barra at first and came up with a few sets of jaws the first few bites. He got back on his game pretty quick boating 3 fish before me and felt the need to rub it in.
Rich managed to pull a 32cm f/l bream pretty early and set the challenge for me to better it. Took me about 2hrs but pipped him with a 35cm fish And left us with a good bag for the day.
On the 2nd day we started off pretty slow with no fish in the well before 9.30 which was totally different to the day before with 30 fish been caught in the first hour. It took big Richie to turn things around with a New pb of 37cm f/l bream. It took the rest of the session to fill the bag with a couple of upgrades.
Richie being all stoked with his new pb "Your not gunna beat me today bro!"It came down to the last cast before we had to head back to the weigh in and i told him id beat him with this cast and win the comp for us. I cast out over a sunken reef and worked the bananna prawn halfway back to the boat and got slammed. Line screamin off the reel and after a short fight Rich does what Rich does best and nets a nice 37 1/2cm fish for me. Pipped at the post big Rich.
Had a great weekend catchin up with the big unit, caught plenty of fish, had heaps of laughs and managed to win a couple of hungy each to top it off. Cant wait to get up to Darwin to show him how its done up there aswell:P
When you have fun, the fish will come.
Ejoy the pics
