I got the STTLW 40A $255 including 300 m of 40 power pro braid spooled for me delivered to my door. I matched it up to a Daiwa 7 ft 12/40 lb Grandwave, have not used it yet but it should be a good combo.

notsa,
care to share where you got it?
would anyone be worried about the levelwind breaking?

You already have the web site mate[jandh], as far as the level wind breaking I don`t see why they would be any different to any other reel. Have you got one yet?

notsa,
nah not yet, will be going to get one at lunch today, from a local tackle store (like supporting locals). $269 for all the sizes. Already have braid and a rod, and want to use it this weekend, so us websites an't gonna work.
Does anyone any experience with the rd as before mentioned??

notsa,
sorry just got back from Cairns Tackle and Bait (now named TackleWorld). The $269 is for the saltist's without the level-wind, but yer for all sizes.
The level-wind models are $325. Just got the 40 size one. Very nice!

I think I might just try for some inshore mackies on saturday...see what happens...My back is still sore from last weekend..every second fish was a trevally..man those GT's make you earn their capture ,don't they???http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/undecided.gif
Bit of jigging for you it sounds like...some people are just gluttons for punishment.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/wink.gifhttp://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif
Good luck and hope a few big reds decide to jump on your jigs instead.http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/../yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/smiley.gif
BTW, what depth are you using the jigs in??

BTW, what depth are you using the jigs in??
first crack with the jigs was last saturday on a wreck - 40m or so - caught a couple of trevally, a spotty mack, a grinner the size of the jig all in about 30 min before it got dark, so packed it in.
Sunday was round 2, jigged a bombie in about 25-30m for around 20 minutes, got bricked after a long hard run with a shit load of drag (80lb braid), then a couple of little trevally, and then the GT. Gave up after the GT and went trolling for more spanish.
We would find a nice show on the sounder, have someone manouvering the boat over the show, and 2 blokes jigging away. Seems to be good fun and keeps you entertained between the trolling sessions.

Any updates on how these reels are performing? I've been on the lookout for a good quality level wind overhead for ages, nobody seems to make them. I do love the Daiwa gear though, and this looks like it could be just the ticket for a bit of bottom bouncing.
Thanks,
Dave.

dave,
Reel is smooth and powerful.
It can be really easy to loose track of your line levelling with such a fast retrieve (as i noticed on my bro's penn torque prior to my purchase), also braid can become painful on the thumb.
The level-wind puts these two issues to bed, and lets you put more effort into the pump and wind.
I have it spooled up with 80lb braid, and run a 80-150lb leader, seems to work well on the back of the pflueger.
disorderly,
Here is a red one! you must have given us good luck, cause we got a few as well as the orange spotty thingo's, didn't fall to a jig though, good old pillie and his mate squid did the damage.

Thanks for that mate. I don't want to be a pain, but would it be possible to get a pic of someone holding the outfit, just so I can get an idea of size? I don't have a local tackle store and will probably mail order mine when I'm ready.
Which gear ratio did you get? I think there is a 4.9 and a 6.4:1, also how do you find it for bottom bashing? Not too heavy, plenty of power etc etc.
Thanks,
Dave.

hmm.... a little wierd.......:-/ ;D
but yer, i should be able to get a snap over the weekend.
I purchased the 6.4:1 model as I will be doing a little bit of jigging with mine. Some will tell you to stick with the lower gear ratio for btm bashing (see other threads on the subject).
I used to use a TLD20 for btm bashing, was ok but prefer a star drag reel for all the constant freespooling to keep the bait on the bottom after a strike. The drag is plenty to achieve a good amount of flex in the PE7 jig stick, although after a while (year or so) I will probably look to upgrade the drag as per this website:
http://www.senortuna.com/main/showthread.php?t=14827
The 40 size saltist is alot smaller than the TLD therefore more ergonomic.
The handle seems fine and comfortable.
The only problem I have found is my knot that joins the braid double to my leader line is a liitle too bulky to fit thru the level-wind mechanism, this can be overcome by a lower profile knot, and my overkill 150lb leader doesn't help.

Not wierd, sorry it came over that way. Don't worry about the pic, I've handled a TLD 20 so good to know it's smaller than that. I just don't have a local tackle store so can't get one in my hands to judge the size, I didn't want to order one and find it too big and heavy for constant use, thats all.
Thanks for your help, it sounds like a winner to me.
Dave.

yer i was only joking mate,
go to that link you can see the bloke holding the reel in his hand. The 30-50 sizes are all the same dia. just a different width.
