Probably an easy one as I am a noob. sorry for the poor camera quality used a pretty crappy one.

I was expecting a tailor, but thinking its pretty thin, it could be a whiting or a mullet?

if it helps it was cause just after sunset at about 5:30 (vic)

thanks guys.

Did think GH at first glance but jsut looks like a mullet to me. Bit of a skinny one but. Did well to catch him though mate... they can be elusive on hook and line.

yeah dont think you get any herring where i was fishing. the photo is a bit crap so you cant really see the fins.

just looking at pics now. the colour and fins (from what i saw) looked different to a mullet. colour again looks different to a whiting. maybe just a thin skipjack?

Why would you take a fish (let alone eat it) if you don't know what it is, what the size limit is or whether it may be poisonous?

because, it was size. and it is obviously one of the fish i thought it could have been. so i couldnt have gone too wrong. i bled it scaled it and put it on the smoker afterwards. did i take a risk? i dont know. im new to this and probably irresponsible.

a poor excuse for what exactly. If your talking about taking the fish. Its a not undersize in all the different posabilities of fish that are in that particular lake. If your talking about me putting my own health at risk. well then thats just a personal choice now inst it?

anyway thank you for your help and constructive criticism.

I tried to enlarge, brighten, and clear the photo up a little bit so we could have a decent look. Not much better but looks like it could be the yellow eye mullet.

If you were to take a picture of it and looked it up on your arrival home, then you'd be well aware what it is for the next time you catch it.

Anyway, enjoy your fishing.

Cheers,
