I have a new 6.5m Plate boat arriving in a couple of months and need to buy a trailer. the stats from the trailer makers from past sales are 50% skids and 50% rollers. I would like to drive on and off the trailer. has anyone out there tried both and which do you prefer. all the help I could get would be appreciated
Cheers Chris

Personally cause I have a glass boat I would only have a multi roller trailer.

Buuuut for a plate boat I think skids would be the go, provided the bottom of the hull wasn't painted. Cause skids are basically scrapes once sand and grit gets in.

I have rollers on the keel and skids to suport the balance!! Ezi guide rollers that i converted to skids to guide the boat on when driving it up the trailer.. works well for my 6m plate hull

Chris I am also getting a new 6.5mtr platey built ATM.

What trailer are you thinking of getting for it?

I am building my own Ally trailer that will have centre keel roller and side skids with full drive on capabilities.

I have a 6.7 metre plate ally boat sitting on a multi roller trailer. That's what it was on when I bought it. No complaints about the trailer, but if I had the choice I would go skids. Less maintenance and just as easy to drive the boat on.

Mate my last boat was a 6.5m platey and it was on teflon skids. It worked bloody awsome, it had a cradle at the rear which swung and decked out with teflon. No maintenance, (unlike rollers, greasing etc) Very practical sat nice and low on the trailer. My cat trailer has it too and id NEVER go back to rollers. Id go skids for sure ;)
