Looking at a recent thread has spaked an intrest into rodbuilding that I have been thinking about doing for a long time. I would like to give it a go, and would like to start with a kit so I get all I need. Can anyone suggest where I could buy a kit from, either on the net or in store around SEQ ? About to semi retire so this could get very interesting indeed.

mate mudhole has some nice kits , not ultra high quality but they are not too bad
a friend brought 2 ST.Croix SCII kits that i am making for him as we speak and they are quiet nice 6ft baitcasters
they are graphite and you get the whole rod unassembled for under $80 USD
freight is about 30 bucks (for up to 5 rods) and you will get it in about 7 days to your door from the time you order it
i think wilson make them as well (check your local tackle shop)

i got the wilson build kit from mo tackle for $100 w/ 2 threads cp and erskines 2part delivered although it was on back order for a few weeks so i'd look at those stcroix ones first
The Mudhole kits are all pretty good value, fairly average guides though IMO. Worth considering are the "Mudhole unsanded blanks" and then a St Croix handle kit and a set of Alconite guides. You'd get your epoxy finish and thread in there as well for the $80.

Noboat,
Do yourself a favour and contact someone like Ross @ The Rodworks.
Give him a a budget and style and he'll make sure not only that you get good quality, but that all the parts are correctly sized etc.
That way you get what YOU want in a rod, not what some wholesaler decided they needed to clear.
