Hi there guys well this is my first attempt at a report so go easy on me! I have just got back from two weeks in sunny Iluka and managed to hit em 6 times 2 trips up the river and 4 to sea so I thought I would put together a little report about how things went.

Monday 07/07/08
Got to town late morning and decided to head up the river to give the boat a run make sure everything was running sweet. It was fairly windy when I through Reece (my boat, so named due to the fact that if its blowing more then 5 knots you get a shower) in the river. I headed over to the middle wall to have a go at some blackfish and no sooner had I got the boat anchored and my float in the water then it was gone with a nice run of blackfish coming aboard over the couple of hours until the current picked up too much to fish the main channel.
Final tally for the arvo 14 blackfish 28-35 cm with 4 unfortunates taken home for dinner and the rest released. (sorry no pics)

With the previous days forecast big wind not arriving and me wishing I had of gone yesterday I climbed out of bed at 5.30 am and by 6.15 was headed north with a smile on my face despite a bitterly cold 10-15 knot SW. The forecast for the day was 18-23 knot SW but I figured if that was the case I could still fish close comfortable anyway so I was off. Sunrise saw me sitting roughly 13 mile north of woody head and about 3 mile offshore in around 30 meters of water with a slight run of current North. Out went the floaters and I started to try and jig some live bait but they where not playin the game. However luckily it didn’t matter a great deal as in no time one the floaters went off and a nice little squire made its way to the ice box followed by another and another.
The live baits then decided it was brekky time and I was able to put a freeswimmer out and sink one to the bottom and as soon at the bottom one got there he was smashed and after a brief moment of excitement I managed to drop what I suspect was a fair size mulloway. In come the freeswimmer and down he went too again hit as soon as he hit the bottom but this time a much smaller traglin come aboard and went straight back as I had plans to go wide and chase bigger trag late in the day.
Around 10ish my 14 pd floater got hit and almost spooled on the fist run. I managed to stop him though and the stand off began I got nothing on him and he took nothing off me then I got a little on him and he took a little off me and so it continued for around ten minutes or so until I felt a couple of very odd kicks and he was gone hooks pulled (insert swear word here). It wasn’t a long wait though until it was off again this time a fair bit smaller but still a good fish and after a 5 minute fight a nice snapper @ 4.2kg hit the landing net. Small trag where hittin my floaters and bottom gear constantly along with the odd small snapper but at around 10.30 they went quiet. With 5 fish in the box 4 squire and one decent snapper and a very much stiffening SW its decision time head wider to 5-6 mile and have a go at my jew spot or head for home?
Well temptation got the better of me and I headed east and was putting the anchour over the side at 11.30 ish in what was now a full blown 25 knot south westerly with plenty of chop. First bait to hit the bottom was smashed instantly and I was on to what I though was a small mulloway but turned out to be a very nice trag. Next one to hit the bottom suffered the same fate for the same result and again and again until with my bag limit in Trag on board I caught one more and put him back but he didn’t swim off that well so I pulled anchor and headed for the beach to run home in close and out of the wind which was now right royal into it. Home 12.30 5 snapper 5 trag and numerous releases on both species.

Thursday the 10/09/08
Headed out mid afternoon to throw some lures in the wash around the headlands from the boat. Fished every headland in front of Iluka for 0 result and decided stuff it I am headed home. As I was about to cross the bar on the way home I noticed a flock of Boobbies diving into the water about 200 meters south of the bar so I thought what the hell might as well run over and flick a raider in. within 3 seconds of my raider hittin the water I was on and into a good battle fishin fairly light again I played the fish for what must have been 5 mins before pulling the hooks (insert more swear words here) I cast again and got hit straight away again and again the 14 pd line was comin off the reel at a nice rate down he went then up, up, up and out a nice salmon put on an awesome display of acrobatics until 5-10 minutes later a 4.5 kg Salmon hit the deck. Havin never tasted salmon ( I have heard bad things but they tasted ok to me) I slit his throat and put him in the kill tank ( plastic garbage can) and cast again for the same result and again and again for over an hour if I hooked a fish and lost him I had another before the lure got to the boat they where goin tropo and I was havin a ball then all of a sudden the birds stopped divin and the fish disappeared. Havin had such fun I looked up to find my self about 100 m away from lovers head land so thought oh what the hell might as well go and through the raider in the wash there since I am here now second cast and I was hit by a nice little tailor with six more coming in after him before I decided I had had enough and it was time to head home.
Final score 6 salmon over 4 kg (The one I kept went 4.5 all others released) and 7tailor (kept three released three)

Coucho, good to see you did well out there. i'm heading down to woody heads in the school holidays and was wondering if you knew of any reefs (apart from the headland reef itself) close'ish' to woody. I have fished chaos out from evans before but in a 3.9 stacer it's too far up from woody. thanks....
