Wasn't expecting to be able to get a session in on the weekend and didn't enter the R2M so decided to keep away from the arena (and with the lack of fish, sounds like i made the right decision ;) )
Put in at Wynnum at about 7 and headed to an old favourite spot x off the northern end of St Helena. Just started getting comfortable and establishing the drift direction (only on my second cast) and lent down to move something in the boat when bang, a big hit and a hard fast run had me guessing. The run slowed and the tell tale thumps of a good snap started. ;Dyeeha, at that point all i could think of was that i was onto a spot of gold and i'd be bagged out in 10 minutes::).
The fight didn't last too long but a couple of late hard runs kept my heart in my mouth and i was glad to get him in the net. I couldn't believe how much different the fight was in shallow water, as i've been catching all my snaps in 15m lately.
Quickly released him into the esky and got straight back into it in the hope of some more bigger fish but only managed 3 more squire under 50 and a bream about 30 (all released). It shut down at about 8.30 and i putted around in search of some new structure but figured the day was done and i headed home happy.;D
Snap measured 65cm and was caught on a 5" blue pepper neon.

Nice one Plastix, what sort of Gear are you using in the Shallows? They certainly fight a bit different in shallow water when the only way they can go it horizontal.

Yeah was good to get back out in the bay. Your form on the snaps inspired the choice of plastic.;) Water was clear as so i thought a natural colour was the go and couldn't go past it.

As far as gulps go the blue pepper neon has always been one of my favourites, probably the most natural colour they've got.

3000 sol, advantage rod, 10lb super pe, 12lb yamatoyo leader and 1/6 jighead.
I'm looking at getting a new lighter outfit for bream and squire as the 3000 reel and 8 -14lb rod is a bit heavy to be able to really enjoy the fight. Still good fun but the sol is too tough, it makes it feel unfair::)

St Helena, the ugly duckling of the Bay. Love the place, it always throws up suprises and a decent feed.
Great way to spend a morning, I dont know how you lads produce fish well after the dawn bite? Great fish

Yeah they go hard in the shallow water, good fish plastix. So blue pepper neon wins again, I know what I'll be using next time I'm out. Cheers.

A very nice snap even on the broomstick gear :P , You wont regret downsizing your gear My sol 3000 rarely makes it out on bay trips any more, its usually the 2000 size reels spooled with 6lb braid, certainly make for some fun at times ;D

Fat healthy fish and all of them are lately with the ones i caught this weekend being fat and bulging in the guts. I went into the bay snapper comp with artificials only and would have won with my 40 cm to the falk but didnt bring to the weigh in thinking the fish caught would have been bigger with the bay snapp being only 1.1 kilos. Lesson learnt. Harry,s have some hungry bite sized fish on the drop off to.
