As a change of scenery from fishing my regular Jumpinpin haunts, the crew of Ausfish members "The Sav" and "Mayney" and myself headed out aboard the good ship "Cab Sav" for a few quiet ales and a pleasant night on the water at the Northern end of Pumistone Passage.
With a relatively clear sky and a building moon above we were anchored up late afternoon and settled in for a full nights fishing.
As we were all in the novice class for this neck of the woods and took pot luck on a suitable Bream location slightly away from the main flotilla that had gathered.
With keepers hitting the ice slurry from the first cast it seamed the Mullet gut would again prove too good to refuse for the humble bream.
The tide turned just after dark and the action slowed a little with just the odd legal fish coming over the side. We had the footy going on the radio and plenty of frivolity coming from the 3 of us, the night rolled on quite quickly. The lights of Golden Beach made a splendid backdrop to top off the tranquil conditions we had blended into ::) .
The lads hit the cabin around mid night to grab a kip, while I rose from a quick nap to fish through till day break.
The fish continued to bite most of the early morning with numbers steadily increasing in the esky. Size was quite a mixture but not too many throw backs (under 25 cm). The guys rose around 6 am to find the bream back on the bite and between us we managed another half dozen fish around 28 - 31 cm before pulling stumps around 8-00am. Best fish for the trip was 34cm, although as we motored off an old guy fishing near us held aloft a 40cm snodger he had just landed, that's fishing hey :P .
I had arranged for a fisheries research officer to measure our catch back at the ramp as part of a fisheries monitoring project, good stuff Jono !!
Cheers
