How do you fill your spinning reels with superline such as Fireline?

I've always used the technique where someone holds the spool on the shaft of a screwdriver and applies a bit of tension. Then I wind the line on through all the guides on the rod.

The instructions that come with Fireline say to just lay the spool flat on the ground and wind the line on through 1 guide of the rod while applying some tension.

Any opinions on what's best?

Also I remember a few months ago, some people where putting on braid without any backing. Instead they would do several loops around the spool before locking it with a knot. Any feedback on how this is going?

Regards

I always put a few m of mono backing..cheap insurance
throw the spool in the back yard and wind the line on under finger tention using a small piece of wet sponge

Brad ..... Good topic:)
Interesting about the Fireline ........ because if you just let the line come off the spool in coils ..... those coils stay in the line ( twist)
Its much better doing it your way IMO

Funny you mention the connection to the spool ...... My mate had the issue of his braid spinning on the spool yesterday ...... as if there was no drag! so we had to tie it off & unwind it with the boat::) I use 2 loops on the spool before locking it off with a centauri knot 8-) & it works without the need for backing

or if you are not a fan of backing, a wrap of electrical tape around the spool
