With a great forecast Kyle & I headed to Peel to chase snaps, flathead and tailor...

After drifting the eastern side of Peel for very few hits and only one small flathead we headed a bit further east to drift the sandbanks. In one long drift I picked up 12 flathead of 25 to 40cm. Headed back to Peel to try the really light gear (2lb crystal fireline and 6lb nitlon leader) on the reef. No luck other than losing a TT switchblade to a poorly tied knot!>:(

As the tide changed we headed back to the eastern side of Peel. We stuck with the light gear and despite heavy boat traffic we picked up a few undersize squire, flathead and a nice tailor.

Final tally 14 flathead, 4 squire, 1 tailor and 1 whiptail. Not a grinner in sight. All fish were caught on plastics (mostly 5" jerk shads in curried chicken and blue neon pepper) and released unharmed......

Bay was dead flat on the trip home to Wello. No pics as none of the fish were big enough to boast about!

Still a good report. Thanks for posting. I was wondering how Peel was fishing.

Great report mate, I have never really chased Flatties around Peel.
I fish for a few hours there also this morning, lost planty of plastics to Tailor. Landed a few small Snaps, just enough for a few feeds, sadly I did catch a Grinner

Plenty of flathead (mostly the smaller sandies) around from Goat all the way up to the banks.

Generally its best drifting on the outgoing tide (like yesterday morning) using any plastic with a bit of pink on it. Curried Chicken jerk shads accounted for thirteen out of fourteen fish yesterday!

Lots of bait around Peel but we just couldn't find the snaps. Absolutely no pelagic action either.....but beautiful weather conditions.
