Im sure there will be more.
Not the usual NAGG report...;D
Pete , The title says it all::) I actually told the Jinx ... that this would be my report;D
*8 hours on the water ...... ( less 30 mins lost at the start rewiring the plug on the leccy - melted ..... something wrong with the breaker:-/ )
Then needed to go back to get my sunnies ..... which ended up being on the boat anyway::) )
Now ..... I do have to say , I've never fished west of the harbour bridge , so more than anything it was a recon trip.
fished a couple of spots ... before we moved into the Lane Cove river. The water is so clear & cold (12.1 deg max) ...... Eventually we drifted over a shallow flat , that had flatones everywhere ..... spooking very easily & not interested in plastics.
I'm being a little coy ........ but the further we went up ..... we started to see some (& later lots) of really nice ( exceptional , outstanding , gigantic & just very big bream) over some shallow flats ...... which we spent a couple of hours sight casting to them Actually the bream hypothetical post ..... nearly fitted the bill perfectly ... though there was no weed cover!
It was exciting.... to say the least!!!:P We drifted in 3 feet of water & cast to some schooled fish or big individuals (40s ++ XOS) ...... Frustrating because any movement spooked the fish from 20-30M ....... 1 flat alone probably held 100+ big bream:P + we even drifted over a snag at the deeper edge of the flat that had 2 jewies (6-8lb) sitting on it!
I think I had 1 tap .... & 2 follows :(
Worst still ..... we had to leave due to prior arrangements I had made:'( just when we should have been fishing (3-6pm)
Finally ...... I chewed up the prop at the unfamiliar boat ramp:(
Pete ......The lane cove river will be sensational on the bigger tides & warmer water ..... but clarity was the killer ! ........ I'm going to try to fish it again later this week & really gear up for it ! ........ Those big bream are too hard to ignore:)
Cheers
Chris
I'm having another fish with "The Jinx" up Wisemans Ferry next weekend ....... I might go see the Pope first;D

Hey Chris,
Mate I reckon Middle Harbour (up past Roseville Bridge) is better for the real Big bream and Jew.
I fished the lane cove alot and found it to be great for flatmen but the bream size wasn't equal to that of middle harbour.
The muddy banks around the mangroves have thousands of black crabs which I reckon is the number one food source for the big fellas in these areas and the reason they are there.

Hi Pete ...... Gee I wouldn't complain if I caught just one of the bream that we saw ! ....... both DC & I got pretty excited! Several were mid 40s +
The flats definitely held the fish!
Did you fish LCR ... shore based or boat ?
I will fish middle harbour (more new ground::):P ) , so I need some advice;)
Cheers

Yeah I wouldnt complain about those either....You must have found a good spot there.
Middle harbour is good though as Just past Roseville bridge there is GREAT country for big bream and in the deeper sections the jew hide.
In Craig Mcgills first video when he catches those Jew on plastics he is in middle harbour.
When you sneak right up you come to the brackish stuff and I have caught small EP's there....But I have no doubt there are big ones there too.
When you go up further still it wont be accessable by boat as there are boulders and rocks preventing it BUT.....By foot you can access the natural creek and it is home to some top Wild bass.
Definetly worth a good look mate, but of course its a summer thing up there.

Nice spot alright ...... mangrove fringed little cove with a little creek that runs up into it ...... nice flat that pushes into the mangroves...... & so do the GA GA bream:P surrounded by deep water ( which also contained trees that have washed out of the creek ) ........ very cool! ( I'll take some photos next time)
With a little time up my sleeves , I will check out MH though
Thanks

Middle harbour is one of those systems that can throw up all sorts of fish. Have caught kingies under the Roseville Bridge :S. There is some beautiful flats and drop off all around the place. Lane cove river is also a good spot...but needs a lot of homework, try and have a talk with Gary Brown - Craig McGills partner in crime - from the video. Brownie is a bit of a LCR guru, but craig is the king of the harbour when it comes to the northern section. I worked with both of them for a while - they know their stuff. I would certainly be targetting these areas at the moment for XOS bream, but in the deeper holes because of the water clarity.....you will also pick up the odd Hairtail and Jewie at this time of the year...especially on the colder nights.
Cheers

Thanks Greg
I've fished for kingies around the spit ...... but that's about it!
The trouble with Sydney harbour is that its so blo##y big & with so many options ....... You could spend a weekend fishing just the LCR:P Let alone MH where you need another week::) But I'm most certainly going to fish a few sessions over the next few weeks.
I think the bigger tides in the next week will stir things up a bit ...... Regardless , Its gunna be fun trying to extract those stonkers8-)

I tell where he is a guru - Botany Bay. He fished out of my boat one day and boy did he show us how to do it !!!

Brownie is also a 'gun' rock fisho. He knows the south coast rock spots like the back of his hand....especially Bawley Point.
