Boat Lugging to One Side

HI Team,

Hope you are all well!

Problem - when driving boat back to ramp, the boat tends to 'lug' on my side (driver side). Lugging as in favouring..

This does not happen on way out - only on way in.

I have checked boat for water inside hull - none.

Weight distribution is even on deck.

THougths please?

My guess would be that on the way out the wind is coming mainly from your starboard side. On the way back it is on your port side.

On the way out you sit at the helm which is on the starboard side. Your weight bias is offset by the wind factor. On the way back both weight and wind are working together to create the favoring you speak of.

Solutions?

Trim tabs will solve it;

trim your motor in a bit and try to run a bit more angle to the wind;

move some weight to the port side to offset it - a full fish box would be the best solution!!;D

My boat she does that too.

Only differance is full esky on the way out, nice and straight.
Empty esky on the way back, boats all over the place.

Roughasguts, you need to catch more fish to even up the weight on the way in :)

I had that on my boat before I trimmed it up. As true blue said, the winds and sea do have an impact. Was the other way around for me. I have spent a lot of time redistributing the load. Esky in the cabin, batteries moved to under passenger seat, things like that. Is a completely different boat now.

If you are on your own, that adds weight to one side only, so need to even it out.

Thanks - so much response in so little time!

Weight distribution is the same heading out as heading in.

Only difference I see is the impact following seas, wind and trim.

I have trim tabs - so I will experiment.

FNQ - Mate, the boat rips now with the 17P prop! Only problem now is that the tacho does not worked since I re-wired it with the trim guage - nothing :-((
So, unable to advise on new readings - at this stage...
