Hey there;

I have watched under water videos from around the pipe line at the spit , where the seaway meets the broad water off the rocks there, (ironically there is a cleaning table just there too lol).. Seems to be teaming with trevally, flat head, bream and tailor.... yet I have had no luck on several attempts over the years. Tried free floating pillies on ganged hooks, weighted prawns and squid.... not tried lures / slugs though.....

Could anyone recommend a specific type of lure / soft plastic / hard body / slug for that area that I could try?

Is there a firm favourite a traditional bait fisherman could try or is it widely variable, depending on personal preference?

I would appreciate any suggestions,

Regards,

Brad.

The locals near southport use 40g slugs and just rip it back in the seaway and have ended up catching 8kg Golden trevally, big tailor, 8foot Shovelnose shark and many more. Go during the morning at around 4.30 if that is possible and you will guarantee you'll get alot of tailor and trevally.

Cheers Tom
