I had bid on some used spinning reels on e_bay and won them,on arrival and checking them out I noticed they weren’t smooth as they should have been for there quality.
After pulling them apart I found that the anti reverse one way bearing was dry, these will have 6-8 barrel type rollers in place.
After adding some sewing machine oil it came back to being smooth again then it made me think that the seller was getting rid of them cause of that rough feel. And a lot more out there are going to have this problem
Has any one else come across this problem in one way bearing

they usually only give problems after a solid dunking is salt water or sand, but I have repaired reels for people that have been rough like you describe, I replace the bearings, not relube them, but I guess if it is your own, you tend to fix rather than replace.

This one way bearing (infinite anti reverse) is under the rotor with no signs of going under.
The rest of the bearings were clean too with 2 reels
A real fisherman works there gear hard and don’t care about the look of the reel as they get used once or twice a week and don’t get a wash down or lubed.
spears, ya didnt buy the reels from one of these blokes did ya, they probably only seviced the thing once every 6 months;)

LMAO sorry Spears but I agree with Brian - ya had that one coming ;D
To answer your original question yes I imagine a fair few people have this problem as some reels aren't lubed properly from the factory let alone after they get used.
The roller bearings tend to be the first to go, possibly because they are slightly harder to get to to service and I imagine get overlooked a lot.
The newer dedicated reel oil and greases do a better job of staying put once the job is done and I think the type of oil and grease used can cause a few problems themself.
Cheers

When I go to other peoples places I see reels that have got fish scales over the rod grips, blood on the reel.
Has things gotten to such a stage with reels that they are getting treated as a valuable antique, when they should only serve a purpose..fishing with it.
.
Maybe some fish scales wedged into the bearings....;D ;D

The reels must have been previously owned by a 'real fisherman':P;);D
Not someone who has them nice and shiney and just looks at them like most of us apparently do.
