G'day fellas,
Nugg and I decided it was time for the two of us to get out there and try and get a few fish again. After hearing all these reports from Noosa river we decided to hit Woods bay in the hope of getting a trev. We were there before dawn and as we reached a likely looking drop off in close the baitfish went psycho and both nugg and I had our lures in the water. After a couple of casts I had a big knock on my powerbait but no hookup and nugg switched to a popper but couldn't persuade the fish to play the game.
After a while the bait chasing stopped and despite the attentions of ourselves and a few other fishos nothing was being landed (bar one small flatty by yours truly). Nugg and I turned our attention to our staple fish, the humble bream, and headed to the noosa canals. It turned out to be a frustrating experience, with the bream pecking at our plastics but refusing to pick up the lures and run. We managed a few between us, with the greater success coming from casting long and parallel to the banks of the vacant lots we were fishing. Even casting well before the bank we still managed to spook a huge number of fish, with the water clarity making stealth very difficult. My kingdom for a kayak!
I also spotted a big bull shark (approx 6 foot) cruising through the shallows in noosa waters canals. Makes you glad people are becoming aware of just how dangerous areas like these are. First time I'd been up that close to a shark of that size in the wild, they really are an aptly named fish, very thick bodied compared to some of the other sharks I've seen.
Brian and I moved on to twin waters next where we found the going a lot easier. With a lot more colour in the water we were having far greater success in sneaking up on the fish. A few of the proven spots didn't produce but we were still getting enough fish to keep us interested and it was a nice way to round off the day. Photos below.
