Took time out from camping at Lake Macdonald to take my young family for a look around Noosa Heads yesterday. Cracking day, just too good to not be on the water so hired a boat and went for a run on the river. They threw in a couple of crappy rods and dodgy prawns with the hire boat, so we stopped for a while to give my 3 year old a chance to have her first fishing experience. One minute later she is on to her first one. A healthy little bream. It was only when she got it to the boat, she worked out what she was doing. The look on her face was precious. She gave it the Rex Hunt and waved it goodbye. Bit later on, she got her second. This time she knew the story and wound it in like a champion. From that point on, she wanted that rod. Some days it is especially great to be a dad.

Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that are so precious. I bet you will remember that day, as will she, for the rest of your life... :-)

Great stuff Steve, well done!
I'm glad to hear someone in your family can catch fish! :-X ;D
Sounds like you're enjoying your holiday, the good weather is certainly happening at the right time for you.
We took Jamie out on the Pier yesterday for a fish, he's so keen he's been chucking lures in the pool! (minus the trebles) :)
Cheers

There's NOTHING more valuable than spending quality time with family. It doesn't stop with your little princess either, it earns huge brownie points with the missus too. She's a darling mate, good pics and thanks for the report.:2thumbsup:

Thanks for the kind words guys. It is great that there is so many great dads and future great dads on this site, that appreciate the importance of quality family time. This has specially hit home of recent, when I suddenly lost a mate with a young family. Each day you get to spend with them is a gift. Don't waste it!

hi there apollo
i loved your post and your photo's. i cannot help but remember wonderful times i spent with my darling daddy when i was a little girl. we lived right on lake macquarie, NSW and my dad always had boats, both power and sailing. i did everything with him. sadly he is watching over me from the other side now :wings:
he taught me how to swim, fish, sail, ski, snorkel, catch crabs, lug a prawn net in dark waters at night :o just everything around water
our first day out fishing was a true test of fatherly/daughter love. after rowing, yes rowing, out into the middle of the lake, dad set about preparing the lines. whilst he was busy, i cleaned up the boat. and threw those dirty looking prawns (the only bait we had) over the side!!! i was only little...
he pushed me off the boat once when i was a difficult teenager, and was arguing with him on our northbridge senior!!! i came up furious, but all he did was laugh and said "that'll cool you off a bit jenny" and he was right. i deserved it. then he pulled me back on board.
and those things you are doing with your family, (and all the other people out there taking the time with their young children), will become the basis of a love and a bond that can never be taken away
god bless. blackjenny
