While i was fishing at scarb reef this morn i got out of seat, looked around and there was this half cab sitting about 2 metres of my bow.
I thought shit he is going to hit me until i saw the guy paddling.
He couldnt get his motor started and i was closest boat so he paddled to me.
Motor just kept clicking.
I guess it was his starter motor.
I had only been there about 30 mins.
So i asked where his railer was and i tied him on and towed him back to scarb.
Wasnt that easy with strong westerly, around side of scarborough.
But we made it in.
Just a bummer that my car was at clontarf.
Oh well all safe.
That finished my day.
He appreciated it.
That was my day on the water.

I've been lucky enough to find someone to tow me in when I was broken down at Boonooroo. I asked for their address so I could drop a carton around. He smiled and said "No need. Hope you do the same for someone some day" I will, given the chance and it has totally restored my faith in human nature. As someone on the receiving end, I can tell you they are more greatful than they have displayed.

Good luck to you.

Reminds me of one of my very first trips on my first boat. Had a ski boat broken down in the channel. So we towed him back to his ramp. He offered some cash, but my comment was no thanks, but make sure the next time you see someone needing help, you give them a hand.

End of story.

Good work Greg. Just interested though, was the other boat fitted with a working radio?

A couple of years ago was coming off Bribie beach after an arvo of surf fishing, about 30 mins worth of daylight left. Getting close to the 4WD exit point & saw a mass of 4WD's & people. Got closer & saw the issue was a brand new Prado bogged to the diffs with the incoming tide lapping the back wheels. Bloke was getting an ear bashing by his wife, their two primary school aged kids looking at each other with smirks & the bloke looking real worried. A recovery op was underway with 2 snatch straps & one tow rope all joined up with D shackles (disaster waiting to happen there) hooked up to the Prado one end & to a Nissan the other end. The Prado was going nowhere fast & the Nissan was digging itself a grave. My nephew & I wheeled the Pajero around, let out 50m of winch cable & skull dragged the Prado to freedom. No big deal, no fuss but the crowd loved the show, the guy with the Prado was my new best friend & I got the cutest smile from his wife, but I bet he got an ear bashing all the way home.

Good job seahorse, good to see some people still have the Aussie spirit.

As a side note, the engine clicking, to me would indicate a bat flattery, the engine was trying to crank, but not enough power to create a spark (similar to what happens when your car battery dies), maybe it would've been easier to lend him your pull cord to get it started (you can also use a peice of rope, which I learnt the hard way), then you could've kept fishing, but I suppose the downside would be not knowing if he could get all the way back safely or not.

i didnt look at size of motor. think prob at least 50hp. cant u still rope start them?

yeah, my 60 4str has a pull start, only thing is you still need at least 9v from the battery to get the electric fuel pump going. If you don't have the pull cord, you can cut off some rope from your anchor, bow rope, and untwine it to get the thinner diameter and use that with a knot tied in the end to stop it pulling through. Once the moter gets going it should be putting around 14v back into the battery.

Regards for your effort and unquestioned act. What goes around comes around. We all need each other at some stage and I hope I'm there when you need a hand. I lived in a remote landscape for about 4 years and it is a lonely place to break down. I've helped my fair share and have been offered assistance by others if ever I've ever been in need. Good to know that people care. Often it is simple problems that can be fixed on the spot. Once again, well done. My hat goes off to you. Sacrifice, it's worth it in the end.
