Saw this posting about Ranger Tugs at the Vic boat show.
Did some searching around some of the US sites. Mentioned about a 21ft trailable boat that uses 2-3ltrs of diseil per hour.
"..powered by a Yanmar 3YM30 diesel that uses as little as 2-3 litres per hour. ... It cruises at 7-9 knots, has a top speed of around 11 knots and is equally at home in coastal and inland waterways. "

Anyone reckon they would be any good offshore eg Mooloolabla Caloundra.
Still not sure about the following
Is the hull seaworthty for open waters
Is it really trailable in Aussie roads.
Give the price of fuel, etc. Obviously you wouldnt want to be in a hurry, but got me thinking about one.
PS I have not affiliation with anyone re this.

Stevea,
I recon they would be fine because they have a similar hull shape to a roberts 21 longboat/sharkboat
the beam is only 2.03 so it is well under towing max and still towable at about 1300 kg
they should be good allround if you have plenty of time to get where you're going

They look a neat boat perhaps similar to the Arvor but cheaper with much better space and equipment although slower. The EC looks the way to go

Thanks Guys, If I ever got one, I reckon I would have to name it "The African Queen" or "Toot the Tug":)
Wonder how the Ausie Agents prices would compare vs the US?.

Here is their website
http://www.rangertugs.com/r/r-21ec.cfm
All they need is a 23 ft version with a max beam of 2.49m, all up trailer weight of about 2.5 tonne.
I honestly believe that the boating world will come full circle (100yrs) on this configuration. Perfect for a lot of Moreton Bay, Hervey Bay and many close reefs as long as you are leaving from safe harbour.
7-10 knots is slow for getting somewhere, but quite relaxing with a couple of trolling lures out the back.
Bar crossings would be interesting due to the lack of agility and speed.
With current US exchange rates, how well would these sell in Australia with the escalating fuel prices??

I have the price in front of me right now, R21 EC is $89895. There is a good video on their website if you are interested. I saw them at the Sanctuary Cove boat show. Cheers Winston.

At that sort of $s the Arvor looks like a better bet IMHO

Wow, that price is a suprise.
I saw the US brochure with price from $45,937 USD plus tax etc.

Obviously Freight is a significant factor but thats almost double the price.
Any thoughts of if the noise, vibraton and fumes of the diesel would be significant?
Have gotten used to the 4 stroke, quiet, smooth and no fumes.

I don't think noise and fumes would be a problem but getting used to the lack of speed might be. I bought a slow boat because I think it's a nicer way to travel than bouncing about in a planning hull but from taking people out on my boat there seem to be some people who enjoy travelling slowly and some who hate it.

I am with Chimo, either the arvor or what about the locally produced roberts at half the price with the same economy, comfort and expectations

Bottom left of this page Steve. The video is about the R25 model not the 21 footer. Looks very well equipped.

Thanks Dave, the 25ft looks very sweet, but is too big and pricey for me.
Too bad they dont have a video of the 21ft.

Still think these are better value, go slow or up tp 20 or so, more choice.

Yeh, Thats what I first thought (still not sure) , it looked like a long river boat rather than open ocean. The Avor boats does look good too.
Bit worried if I bought one i might get nicknamed "Tug Boat Harry";D
