Im looking at getting a 490 Quinnie and was just wonder what size outboards you guys have got and secondly how shallow can you drive them and still be able to control them easily?

I have a 4.3 quintrex/40 hp. For what you have, I would look up the quintrex site and check out their recommendations. Regarding how shallow you can drive em in..........as shallow as you can afford to replace props and impellers. Driving em is as easy as any other boat at slow speed.

'Leigthon' has a 490 bowrider for sale. I'm sure he'd happily answer all your questions if you sent him a PM.

Hi Rossi, I've got a 2003 4.75 m(Actual length is 4.88mtrs) Quintrex Freedom Sports(at the moment, looking to upgrade), with a 60 four stroke yammy on it. Great boat and hull, the more you dive it into a swell the more it comes back at you straight. Very econmical and a good all round type of boat.
Size of the motor would depend on what you are doing with it. I could tow some boarders on mine, but for 2 skiers on 1 ski would suggest some more horses.
I dont like to put my boat in real shallow water, but I do drift acrosss sand banks. If you want some real shallow stuff, than a flat bottom type hull and electic motor might be better.

Ours is a 510 with an 80hp 4st yammy on the back
Probably could have used the 100hp model but finances didnt allow such luxuries.
I would have really liked the 350hp though but the dealer said i might have trouble bolting it on to the transom

75HP 4 Stroke Merc on the back of mine.
62km/hr WOT with my hat on backwards:P can go up to a 90HP but they get a little un stable flat out
I run a 54" Minn Kota on the front, it runs deeper than what the boat draws whilst the motor is trimmed up ( hope that makes sense )
