Dave, I might be out of touch , but me thinks the bf 40 is three carbs.
Would be great to see honda better the old bf40/50 with efi.
I used to have a bf50, light for a 4 banger good on fuel, just go and go.
Probably not the gruntiest on larger hulls but bulletproof to say the least.

Hey Saurian
The 3 carb models are on the way out (out of production) the BF40/50 are now going to be programed fuel injection and the story go's these little fours are beating the two strokes out of the hole as well with there new blast technology(I am going to start a fight with that comment the two stroke boys & gals will be up me) they are retailing around $7800 I think.

And they go up to 90hp with tiller steer too that is a big donk to have a handle bar on it.

I was at the release of the 40 and 50 on the Gold Coast recently. got to drive several setups including a tiller 40 with TnT. various remote control setups of the 40 and 50.
These engines have to be driven to be beleived.. a worthy contender if your looking around this HP range. These are completely new engines not upgraded versions. :)

Actually they look a good thing in that small size. They must weigh less than those small ETECs :P

I am hoping to have a 40hp on the 4.2 Dory in a month or so I would say it will get along too. Hey Garry how did you find the tiller steer model!.

Jaba,
Blast is all about the stoichiometric air fuel ratio and ignition timing. Blast utilizes the optimum air fuel ration for acceleration of around about 12:1 then for ecomomy drops the ratio back to and up as high as 18:1 this coupled to the most suitable timing for the given throttle position gives it great performance and economy. Basically whenh you hit the throttle you have performance and when you back off (ie not 100% throttle) you will get economy sensed by the ecu.
Have included some propaganda for ya;)
Dave, the tiller 40 was a good match on a 4.35M (cant remember what brand of tinny) plenty of power and very quiet. you really should go for a test run to see what they are like.

i have the new Honda 50 on a 4.5 blue fin . ive only done 5 hrs.. on it and are quite pleased' gone is the old heavy look motor is very quiet and does have very good performance just does it so quietly that until you look at the gps you realise your already there. only recommend is go for the stainless prop straight up the ally is to thin it will bend its tip at the slightest touch of sand. the blast helps you get up and go a lot quicker and you get about 20 % better fuel economy than the older models. it is a very much a new outboard not just revamped . the prop grips very well for reversing and also trimmed right out it takes a lot to let go( handy for us skimming sandbars) with the five year warranty and blast as well as efi and lighter weight it was enough to convert me from getting a Yamaha 60 which iam quite fond of as my brother has one. it will be very popular in tillers because of it power to weight ratio i would guess.
light weight load it is very close in top end to the 60 Yamaha or better( brothers boat is slightly wider than mine)
mine is not a tiller but the controls are smooth. it feels like there is more horsepower available from this motor and i wouldn't be surprised a 60 model comes out in a years time . it is very much worth a look if buying in this hp category.

Thanks Ozbee It sounds like a great motor. I dont know which way to go with 2 stroke or 4 stroke It all comes down to $$$$$$$$ it sounds like the fuel savings are there.
Dave.
