Just purchased a 5.3m fibreglass half cabin, i live on the northside of brisbane and was looking at launching the boat at pinkenba boat ramp tomorrow as the conditions will be fairly rough out but wasn't sure if it was suitable for my boat or if the area was safe to leave car and trailer, any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Rosco

yes safe enough but a bitch to try and get your boat back on the trailer.

andrew, is it hard to retrieve the boat because its exposed there to all winds, or just the combination of winds and river currents?

Whyte Island is not much further, is well protected & has a big carpark. Plus the Water Police are around the corner & the area is patrolled by Brisbane Port Authority.

Thanks for that Pete, we will try there, haven't been there for a look before but will trust your advice and give it a go, first time out in my new boat, won't be going far due to wind forecast though. Cheers Rosco

Agreed. The carpark even has cctv cameras.

Also, sometimes the current running out can make retreiving a little bit difficult If your solo, but not too bad. If your are going by yourself, tie a second rope to the stearn to help you when retreiving (this should be done on any ramp, makes things heaps easier)

Launched the boat at Whyte island ramp yesterday, Pete, thanks for the advice, a very good place to launch, nice spacious car park, 3 lanes to launch and was very easy, saw security a couple of times which was good to see, will go there again, thanks very much.

Hi All
Would leave Pinkenba alone, launched from there a few weeks back and returned to find my drivers side window smashed from a rock. Doesnt have the secure feel that it had when the bait and tackle shop was there.

Cheers Phil
