gday all,
getting my first 4wd and wanting to plan a trip to Fraser dragging the boat along.
as the MRS is not keen on tents for any lengthy period of time (as well as having a little bub on the way) we would have to stay in a house or unit or similar.
I'm after some advice on where would be best to stay that will allow room for the boat.
also preferably near to the best place to launch on the island.
cheers
mick

Hey Mik,
Not knowing your experience, I would suggest you go up without the boat first to get a grasp of what's involved.
I've been up about 5 times, yet still wouldn't tow a boat like your Rum Runner up there. A tinnie maybe, but not a 5.5m Rum Runner.
It's not a simple task, and i'd say get some experience behind you first.
Regards
Darren

thanks Darren.
good points.
should have mentioned that I would have a couple of other 4wd's with me for support, however you are probably right about trying a 'dry' run.
been to Fraser many times but never driven it.
where's the best place to get tips on driving Fraser?

Mik01 Experience may be the best advice. Firstly try a trip without the boat and explore the inside tracks as well as the beach running.
From Rainbow Beach
There are some nice places to stay at Happy Valley and you have amenities close too. From there it is a good beach run to Indian Head And a little further on to the next headland where you have to traverse through some tough tracks to come to the other side of the head and the boat launching area. Orchid Beach I think it is. Not sure on the local accomodations here, but it's position may limit you investigating the rest of the island.
I have a very limited knowledge of the other side (Hervey bay side)
Chris
What 4 x 4 do you have?

Mik01 i have owned 4x4's for many years all toyota's and have been to fraser on many occasions. I have towed my previous boat up a 5.5m with 200hp and all our gear and had no problems anywhere. Having said that carefull planing is required, hit the beach at the right time and tide, know where you are going and common sence all the way. additional 4x4 company will almost insure you get there. As for where well with a boat it has almost got to be waddy point. There are many houses for rent near by to suit large family's in fact to suit a couple of family's. I could not imagine staying anywhere else if i had my boat with me and the boat can be left at the house for the day's when exploring the other parts of the island. Hpe this helps. MARK.
