It's been a few weeks since I got out and with the weekend weather forecast not looking good, I decided to have today off and work saturday instead.

It was also my first trip with a new reel (thanks Bar-Up) and new handheld gps chartplotter (all I need now is a new rod and im set) so I was anticipating a good day. Stopped in a bcf yesterday and got a pack of 5" curry chickens to try out.

Got out to west side of Mud about 6ish, and was surprised to have the place to myself. Rigged up a curry chook and first cast Im on, sadly it was only an under squire approx 25cm, but a good start. Just as i popped him back in the water my second (dragger) rod with a 4" lime tiger got hit, another under squire. Got yet another small squire about halfnhour later then things went dead.

After working the west side for another 2 hours or so with no hits, I moved and tried the north side for an hour, then the east side for another hour. With nothing happening, I decided to head back to the west side and try my luck again. That was about midday.

Back on the westside, second cast and Im on. This time a 38cm Squire (at last a keeper) Over the next 20 mins I landed another 4 squire but all undersize, missed a few hits and one bite off, then things went quiet again. Tried for another hour with no more hits so pulled the pin.

Was a great day on the water with great weather, although maybe it was a little too still as it was very hard to get drift happening. (an electric would have been tops)
Only one keeper and a few small ones, but enough to keep me satified for another week. Did any other ausfishers try mud today? any results?

Good day Marc. I took the little fella down to the waterfront for some lunch and a play in the park. It sure looked lovely out there. If only I had a bigger boat we would have come out to join in the fun.

How did the new GPS go? What model did you get?

Cheers
Brad

Thanks Leighton and Brad.

I got the Lowrance IFinder H2O with a navonics chart. Found it very useful, especially to save a mark when I landed fish, so i could drift back over the same spot.
