G'day looking for guidance here as I am unsure precisely how a pitot system speedo works ..other than it is a pressure type sensor.
At present the boat that I have had/has the fishfinder transducer on the port side when looking from the rear and the pitot pickup on the starboard.
My new fisher finder recommends installing the transducer on the starboard side so I thought ..easy ill just swop them over put the new transducer where the pitot is and move the pitot to the port side.
There in lies my possible problem the tube from the pickup to the speedo gauge will not reach to the new position. Without knowing if the lenght of the connnecting tube is in some way calibrated to the reading can I either
a/ put a joiner in and lenghten the tube or
b/ replace the entire tubewith a longer one ( not preffered option as the tube is fixed in place and difficult the remove.
Any assistance from those who know he working principles of this unit would be greatly appreciated
