Went for a fish yesterday on the beautiful Clarence River in the hopes of picking up a few humble flathead for tea. Didn't have much luck with only one keeper for the day, but it doesn't really matter when you can catch a 20lb jew on a smelly old prawn that had been in the freezer for the last 12 months as bycatch for the day. Anyway the pics can do the talking, as you can see I am one very happy camper and this kind of bycatch is welcome in my boat anytime.

Top fish...

That would make some blokes cry.....Some chase them for night after night without success....then you hear the stories like this!

Good one you mate.8-)

Pete

P.S I would be heading down to that spot again armed with some soft plastics.

Hi Pete... I have been one of those blokes that have fished for jewies night after night without success. Makes me wonder about all the preperation some people go to to try and succeed. It is now my new PB Jewie, far beyond my previous best of only 8lb.

Beautiful fish Tony.
Finding the fish on the bite is 95% of the trick to jewfishing, IMO.
As you can see, if you find them and they are hungry, they aren't too fussy!
Cheers and congratulations!

Hi Tony-P
mate the beautiful old Clarence River has always been good for the jewies, as that is where i cut my teeth catching them have not fished it since 1971.
When I was a kid many many moons ago, when my parents use to take us on holidays in the area, there use to be plenty of soapies an some good size jewies in the area along with some beautiful flathead it is a nice Bi-catch.

good catch on the old smelly prawn an enjoy

Cheers
Steve

Looks like the broadwater, the flattys are really starting to chock up in that area feeding in the shallows on high and along the dropoff on the low.
Top fish on that gear! There seems to be a few around. Notsure who's saying its recovered? It never had anything wrong in the first place, had a good fresh a few months ago but thats about it.

Spot on with the location matooty, but it's amazing how many people fish the area and come home empty handed as it is quite a productive area, but I suppose in the 15 years I have been fishing the river I have learnt a thing or two. There have been a few jewies around, I did catch another one a couple of days before which was only 8lb and had a few other misted runs. Your right in saying there is definetly nothing wrong with the river, it always seems to provide me with a feed.

Cheers Tony
