Launched at Clontarf about 5.00a.m. It was a bit choppier than I expected so a trip to Mud was out of the question. Went out the front of the Woody Point reefs and anchored up - with the falling tide and the wind out of the south-west it was fishable. if not terribly comfortable. Put out a bait on one rod while I rigged a pilchard under a float in case there was a tailor about. Hadn't managed to get half-way through rigging the pilly when ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ - something solid takes the bait. After a couple of minutes, and lots of head shakes, later a nice snapper 62cm is netted. In the next hour I landed another three (59, 61 and 65cm) and released another 4. About 6.30 the sun peeked around the clouds over Moreton and the fish disappeared. After releasing about half a dozen Moses perch I figured they weren't going to come back so by 7.30 I was back at the ramp. It was a great little session - who needs Mud anyway?

You missed nothing at Mud. I'm thinking about giving bait a try - I can't raise a scale there lately.
Roo - that graph looks interesting. Where's it from?

Interesting - but the graph shows a similar bite peak for this morning. I was there again, a bit earlier this time, but the same place with the same conditions and could hardly give a bait away. Managed one squire about 37cm about 5.30a.m. and no other decent bites, just a few undersize bream and Moses perch. I think that yesterday I might have been lucky enough to hit a school and my berley held them long enough for me to get a few. Still I guess you make your own luck by ebing there and putting in the time!
Cheers Freeeedom

Still working it out, first time i looked at it and planned a trip to my local close reef off tweed, I pulled a 15kg jew up on my squire gear and my fishing buddy that morning got a 9kg snapper and blown away by another on the first drift of the day. it was 3 drifts for 3 hits and 2 landed (all 7" gulps).....right on the bite peak period......then it went quiet.

Checked Seabreeze and the barometer was good and rising, 7-8knots of SW breeze sounds ok to me. the only thing not in you favour would have been the tide at 5.30 am was around the top of the high tide so you would of had not much flow perhaps. On the graph the Darker Mauve colour shows the tidal flow and at 5.30 there was none...(No Run, No Fun)....in fact the decent flow the same as yesterday's successful period wasn't until after 7am. there are lots of other variables other than tide/moon phase and barometer. maybe your shakra was misaligned:P.
Cheers Roo.

I will be out near scarby reef about 3.30am this Sunday morning looking at the forecast of gusty chilly westerly winds. It should be good I think as Sat is supposed to have a few showers around.
Gotta love chilly mornings out there predawn.

Hi Greg - it's a white Quintrex 4.6m coastrunner with a blue canopy and a 50Yamaha four-stroke. I always fish with the canopy down

Good session and a good feed there. I have never fished there before. Just wondering the depth the reef is on an average ?

Off the reefs on high tides around 5 - 6 metres when your drifting around.
On the reefs at high, couple metres or less, depends where u are really.

Yeah - that's about right. Plenty of reef out of the water at low tide. I was fishing about 20 metres east of one of the reefs in about 4 metres of water (at high tide)

Nice session. Makes it worthwhile catching fish like that when you change your destination plans at the last minute. Well done!
