Heading to Mackay for a wedding early August and thinking of throwing in a rod for a bit of landbased fishing. At this stage we will be staying at Dolphin Heads and probably won't have a car so I am wondering if there are any decent spots in that area?

Also keen on finding a good river or inshore fishing charter? I love throwing lures, so would like to find a charter operator that could stretch my arms - are there any in the region? Would also be interested in a charter on the local dams if they are any good?

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Marty

G'day mate, a good charter is this:

Also, if you can get to the harbour, south wall, near the helicopter pad, there is some excellent fishing to be had.
Have not tried it, but I hear that the mouth of Eimeo Ck can produce the goods.
Impoundment charter fishing is not really done around Mackay, you would be better off checking out Lindsay Dobe, in Proserpine; he does a charter to Peter Faust dam.... and has a very good reputation.
