Nothing wrong with Morwong....haven't caught one in the bay though....
Out of curiosity I kept a morwong once and fried it in cornflake crumbs. I took a bite and initially it tasted OK. Made me wonder why they were so maligned.
Then I tried peeling off some crumbs and eating the flesh on its own. It was mushy and tasteless and I ended up throwing most of it out. To anyone thinking about keeping a morwong (anyone who's used to keeping better fish, that is) for God's sake crumb it, preferably in cornflake crumbs!

I thought you boiled them up in a pot with an old boot, and a rock.
After an hour you throw the boot, and the fish away and eat the rock ?
I know when I was on the charter off swains they made us throw them back. Siguatera perhaps ?
Surely they would be alright in a seafood casserole ?

Yeah, I used to turn my nose up at them until a mate served one up straight out of the kipper box one night at work.
All saved these days for similar fate . Still give them a good bleed though

I told my Chinese lady that they were the fish that you gave to your mother-in law :). She said to me it looked like a big bream when it came aboard. I kept it for her and she cooked it whole with Ginger and garlic sauce........wow my eyebrows shot up when I had the first bite. It was fantastic. She said I must have really loved my mother-in law to give her such a fish. It was only a 2 kilo fish so maybe thats why. She keeps looking at those big ugly catfish that sometimes inhabit the reef after heavy rain. Haven't succumbed to taking one of those yet ;). Over in China my friends cooked catfish head soup for me. Man talk about a white guy going inscrutable :(. The heads popped out of the soup with some skin boiled off the bone and with little white eyes and those little whiskers pointing at me from the bowl........ catch the picture :).

There has to be some give and take, there are plenty on this forum that know what there on about (and a few that don't ) but you cant expect a whole lot of fisherman to be giving marks up with out you giving a little yourself.

I gave him one mark he gave me one mark. Theres a bit of give....... and a bit of take. i dont think he is gonna go coughing up marks for everyone to see.
Damian's mark came with more detailed instructions than i've ever had time to work out for my spots so i think i got more than i gave.
Cheers mate, will let you know how we go tomorrow.;)

They have recently changed there name Blue ??? i think to try and open up more of a market for them...
They do need bleeding asap, and we try and avoid keeping them in spawning seasons...normally april here as they have a kelpy taste...
But generally , if treated right they are a great table fish
