broadwater friday night

Well as planed hit the water around 11.30pm all geared up an plenty of places to fish, started with excitement;D then went to pain:'( half from the Grand view boat ramp to spot X and the fuel bulb decided it had enough and blow, part one went to get the spare from tool box only to find the nephew had been there did not place things back to where they belong>:(.

So out come the old back yard mechanic job of water tape over the fuel pump bulb hoping this will work thank the fishing gods it did the trick went to take a photo to show you the outback jobby and slipped of a bit of fuel an over the side went a $200 digital camera the wife will not be a happy chappy when I tell her.

So back in action to spot x picked up a nice Jewie 6.5kg, dropped one at the boat an one that thought he was following the express train:P because he was the freight train:( an out of there snapped the 65lb braid with 25lb leader.

So off to spot x and a half with the morning coming in to await the arrival of the tasty flathead while waiting throw some mullet strips for some bream 30 to 35cm range and now have 8 in the freezer this was by 5.30am no sign of the flathead as yet 7am.

Decided to head to runnaway bay marine to pick fuel bulb they opened at 8am fixed the problem an away fishing again head back to spot x an half with a couple of drifts along the way pick 2 nice flathead going 60 an 65cm over to favorite spot an pick up another 2 going 55 an 65cm dropped some good ones at the boat and through back about 20 bream all under the 28cm mark.

I thought all was going well until a mate call to tell he had just pick up the wife to take her to the hospital where she is now yes she is ok but them's the breaks, so I thought boat back on trailer home I go, stop to put air in tyre an kicked the middle toe split it open(thank goodness it was not the big toe would have big bloody headache now);D get home and here funny hissing sound from under bonnet blow a water hose that is my four bad lucks for the year now. However all in all it was good to get back on the water and have some fun an relaxation of catching some fish

anyway hope you all have as good a time with out the mishaps

Sounds like enough action there to write a book.Glad you caught a few to ease the pain of losing the camera.Hopefully the missus won't go you with a frypan for losing the camera but after todays luck ............... Jim

mate it is not the fry pan that I am worried about it is that bloody marble rolling pin we have it will definitely leave a mark.

However it was better the camera overboard than me although the boss will say yes but you can swim when did you give that poor camera swimming lesson or teach it to be water proof????

My answer to that is this was the start of it's training but it drown on the first lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your your bad luck mate but you got some good fish there. Is that a typical session for you on the broadwater? I mainly fish the fresh but have just started venturing into the broadwater with no success yet. ( 1 trip so far).
Well done again. Hopefully one day I'll have some secret spots of my own. Your report gets me keen to hit it again. Maybe the night time is a big plus.

Shame about the bad luck, but well done on the jewie. Im still after my first. I didnt know you could get em in the broadwater. What bait were you using?

Richard in answering your Question mate this is typical of most fisho's on the broadwater where the bream an flathead are concerned as for the jewies there are there if you know where to look and you are feeling lucky.

The Bream where caught on fresh Mullet strips (prefer Fresh Mullet gut) however the last minute decision to go fishing (why cause the boss told me I could go) did not have enough time to organise some with our local fish'o.

Richard I prefer to fish Night time for the Bream an i fish in the shallows on the rising tide about 2 hrs either side this gives you time to get in to some of these spots, for the better quality fish seem to come out

As for the flathead well usually first thing in morning again either side of the tidessome spots prefer the rising tide other spots the runout a little bit of home work an you will have you spots x's some times local knowledge can be a big hand is your catches as well as one bait may not be as good as some thing else.

The Flathead were caught on the good old pillie using a double 2/0 gang rig on 4kg line and the same line for the Bream.

Andrew there are some great spots down there if you know where to look this is the first time in a long long time that I have actually target jewies the bait I use for them was Dead whole Mullet 20-30cm I would prefer livies however (some di**head left his castnet sitting in the shed) shame on me the excitement of going fishing made me forget and why could I go fishing cause the boss told me I could go.

Richard some spots in the broadwater to look for end of Crab and little Crab there is a jew hole along little crab in the channel south straddie side also mouth of south arm of the coomera river.

There are some good jew holes around just need to look as well as this most jewies are caught in the seaway this time of year one good spot is near seaway tower (vmr) and some big trevallys pulled from there to.

Some of the guy's I know that target these most of the time us Live Mullet 20-30cm, fresh Mullet fillets, Tailor 30-35cm, and whole squid. one guy I have speak to recently swears by the good old Whole whiting and Squid and he fishes in one of 2 places.

just a case of getting to know the area and as we all know catching the old jewies is some times like trying to win the lottery if it is your turn then good luck

I knew the seaway had jews, but Im not keen on sitting there at night.

I havent been to Crab Is for a long while, so I'll try that soon. I know Coomera river very well, and have had a few bite thrus on 40lb leader round there. I keep telling myself they must have been shark....then I feel better, lol.

So where do you get live mullet when you do take the castnet? Do you cast by pot luck, or find em on the sounder or surface? All I get is herring...

I know what you mean about lottery. I did quite a few sessions last winter in the Coomera hunting jew without any luck. Time to try the Broadwater, youve restored my enthusiasm.

Mate up around the coomera river there are plenty of good spots for live mullet one spot that will nearly always produce them is near the Paradise point boat ramp and the opposite bank whack some bread burly down an give them time to hit the surface around some of the drain you will also find them when down the coast I nearly always put in at the Grand view ramp around this ramp off the wall and the jetty opposite ramp you will find the mullet in close to the bank or in the channel the same as around the pin area there are plenty of spots in which to find both poddy's and larger mullet.
