G'day DB,
I've got a 360 slammer, 460L liveliner slammer, 560L liveliner slammer and got a 760 slammer coming after taking Damo's demo reel to the Swains recently. Needless to say, in my mind, bang for buck, they are an excellent price range reel, smooth, tough and brilliant drag - to get better you'd need a saltiga or stella, both not much change from $1000. So at around the $150ish mark, good value for money, a reel that is a proven performer with a brilliant drag that punches well above its weight.
I love the liveliner feature for plastics, can feed the line out without opening hte bail and turn the handle to engage when you get a strike.
I haven't found anything I dislike about them and penn stand behind the reel with exceptional warranty. Had a line lay problem with the 560L and sent it away. The tech put a kit in and fixed it straight up, no problem.
Personally, I think you'd spend a whole lot of money to find a better reel.
Cheers
Rhys

Sounds like you love em Rhys. I've got a few penn reels and they have all stood the test of time even with minimal maintenance. Just haven't heard anything bout the live liners as yet.
Are you getting yours OS?
Dave.

I know a few that have them, some are "baitrunner" type and some are plain spin types, both are performing very well, especially for the price. As Rhys said, for the bucks, they are hard to go past.

I was wondering how the small reels in the slammers/liveliners cast for small soft plastic work. Do the reels have the finesse to compare to mid priced shim/diawa reels in the same class.

G'day diabolical,
Yeah Swano pulled out a 260 slammer last week and I've got a 360 slammer - they are very suited to SP work offshore - a bit more robust than the affinity, and daiwa/shim product, but match lovely to the 2-4kg proguide, cast well and fantastic drag.
I'm sure you'll be happy with the 460l Dave - Yep, I imported mine too - may you hear the drag scream often!
Cheers
Rhys
