Hey guys and girls.

After putting up a post on tailor around the gold coast I got a few replies and PM's (thanks guys) on recent catches and was set for this week! I had some family staying on Mermaid beach who told me about a big gutter ;D so first stop was there and we arrive there just on sunset and wasn't long before dad had his first fish in the esky.
Long story short we ended up with 10-12 tailor between 33-45cm and 5 dart between 40-45cm. Most fish were caught on mullet with 2 gang hooks and pillies. We also had a berly bag out which was lost to the high tide (oops).

Cheers, Mick.;)

P.s Pic is off the fish I kept.

84 Mick, and others.

you may or may not have seen the sticky thread in the General forum about helping out the DPI&F data collection program.

http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php?t=128648

anyway, tailor is one of the species we are keen to get frames for in the next few months. if you, or anyone else reading this message, are keen to donate your tailor frames to science, can you send a pm to me, or an email to FisheriesMonitoring@dpi.qld.gov.au. Same story if you are interested in finding out more about the program (have a read of the thread on the General forum).

regards.

Jonathan.

how do you want or need the frames? Frozen, Fresh?

Captain Stabin.

frozen is no problem at all. we measure them, determine their sex, remove their otoliths (ear bones - used to estimate age).

I will send you a PM.

Thanks guys,

loophole: wind? what wind? :) about 30min after dark there was nothing! it was a beautiful night! when the tide started to really come in there was to much current and big swell so we left around midnight.

Whatscracken: Na mate there was one fellow fisherman about 200m away but left shortly after the sun went down.

Jono_SS: I will send you a PM tomorrow morning regarding the frames.

Thanks guys, Mick.

I was just recently thinking about giving the goldy a shot for some tailor one evening after work in the next week or two. And you probably need to get some practice in before Fraser ;) Let me know when your heading down and I'll join you.

The bank north of wave break was thick with them today. My wife spun up about 10 in under a hour. The pelthora of whitebait around should hold them there for a while.

Directly west of the seaway. Drive north of that 100mt and you'll hit a bank. The tailor were pressing the whitebait up against it's dropoffs on the end of the runout. Just cast a spoon under the birds and you shouldn't have any worries.

No secret mate, It was at the end of Heron drive not to far from the lifeguard tower on Mermaid beach.

Speaking of birds there were a few about, not a lot but just enough to make you wonder if there is anything under them.

Cheers, Mick.
