hi all, started off at 4.30am friday morning headed out past west point. slowed the boat down got the lures deep in the water & started 2 troll, the sun was not up just yet but that dosen't mean anything about 5.45am the first strike came & didn't stop until the mack bit through the 100lb wire trace,there goes $20 worth of lure. me & my brother in law jason kept going with no result until about 8.20am & his rod buckled over this fish had speed & power after 25 mins he had a 20kg spanish mack boat side, with a quick gaff shot in the boat he came. a high 5 & a slap on the back, lures back in & nothing trolled everywhere with no result so called it a day. last nite i took mate ivan & my 5yr old out around westpoint over 2 burdkin rock,bay rock. we stopped at a mark (big lump) with a few archs showing, put the squid light in, while we were waiting for some squid 2 come around we baited up with some pilles, the first run was primosing but when it came up beside the boat there it was a 4 foot catfish these can go hard. another 5 catties were caught before a couple of big squid came 2 the light, got both of them in the squid net in 1 go, now my young falla has never seen big live squid & he wasn't going anywhere near them:) both squid got pinned 2 6/0 wide gaps & straight back down they went. didn't take long ivans squid got smashed no hook up just took the head & left him with this look on his face:o . a bit later my rod buckled over the reel screaming with about 8kg of drag a good fight & 6kg of cod in the boat. about 10.20 the moon came over the horizan so we called it a nite. we went chasing fingermark so when the moon came up u r not going 2 catch the squid (2 much light).

thanks guys, still a bit slow as i went out 4 times but good 2 have freash fillets in the freezer. maybe this weekend will b calm also & some of us can meet up & go out 4 a fish i am keen. spoke 2 a couple of people at the ramp on saturday nite comming back from the reef, shoals they all said they cleaned up!

I've already had a look at the forecast and the weather turns to shit again next weekend. Bloody typical though 2 months of foul wind and the only weekend its good I'm away for the weekend.

yeah, just had a look myself dosen't look good but u never know. is the predators comp on this weekend? thinking of going in it might have 2 stick 2 the creeks & see if i can get out 2 some spots in the middle of the nite might b a bit calmer than, this depends on the cost of it. scott u should have taken a rod with u.

I did, but we didn't do much fishing. We did go on a reef charter but the fish were very scarce but it wasn't for trying though, the operators tried damn hard to get us onto fish but they just weren't playing the game. Lucky there was a licensed bar onboard to keep us occupied.

Yeah predators tourny is on this weekend, and I think its $50per person or boat and $10 a kid entry, no restrictions where you can fish either (other than the GBRMPA).
