Hey fellas,
Went for a fish early ANZAC day morning with Nuggstar. Weather was absolutely beautiful and we got to the spot just as the sun was rising. The water was like a millpond and the skies were clear, best morning for fishing I'd seen in months. We were meant to be fishing wth Nufin_flash but he was AWOL so it was just the two of us .
The first spot at Golden Beach was surprisingly lacking in fishing action. With the tide dropping I expected more action at the mouth of the canal but alas, just the one dropped flathead for me and a few bream hits for Brian. We had a few quick flicks further up the canal, another promising looking spot that yielded no fish. At least the weather was good!
We moved on up the coastline to the lock at kawana in the hopes of snaring a trevally or flathead. When we got there the water was flowing and there was plenty of bait hanging on both sides of the weir. After a quick flick on the channel side we switched to the canal, where we found a school of big eyes herding herring up against the wall of the lock. We spent the next 45 minutes throwing everything in the bag in front of these fish...small plastics, big plastics, poppers, stickbaits. But they'd just nose it and go back to hammering the herring.
Finally, convinced the trevs had one up on us today we switched to another bream spot of Brians. He was convinced he could convert me to using hardbodies for bream and gave me his trusted RMG Scorpion to use. Brian used a Juro lure in the hope of getting a fish on it and entering the picture in a comp on another site. First cast Brian's onto a small flathead, which was kind enough to pose for a picture with the lure in his mouth before being sent on his way.
As we moved along we saw a few splashes and realised some bream were hitting some bread floating in the water. After one failed cast (damn those lures are light) I managed to land the lure right next to the bread and two twitches and a short fight later I had my first hardbody bream.
We continued moving along and the conditions made for some exciting fishing. The water clarity was unreal, we could see flathead ghosting behind these lures deciding whether or not this shimmying bit of plastic was edible. We managed a couple more bream and flathead each before calling it a day. It certainly wasn't our biggest day for fish in terms of numbers but geez it was nice to be fishing in such great weather. Photos are below (just for you Nick::) )
