I've asked this question before with 1 reply so I thought I'd try again.
A friend recently purchased a LMS-527cDF iGPS c/w Navionics Australia card. I have a similar Humminbird combo unit. My charts are brightly coloured and easy to see and read whereas his are very dull coloured and consequently not so easy to read especially in bright sunlight. It is hard to see what is water and what is land.
The colour brochures and magazine adds all show the chart side as being brightly coloured but his is nothing like the brochures.
I've been reading the manual and cannot find anywhere that I can brighten up his image. The sonar side of the screen is very brightly coloured as in the brochures
I've asked lowrance.com but they don't seem to want to reply so I thought I'd try this group.
Anyone got any ideas.

the only comment i can add is press the PWR button on the unit to go through the brightness levels.
as for his navigation screen being dull.. I put my chart in last week and it fired up perfectly straight away. i have the same sounder as your mate.

Hi Hodges4
I have a similar unit.
Either the screen has a problem, or alternatively he hasn't adjusted the backlight properly - can I assume that youre not familiar with Lowrance products? If so the on/off button also adjusts the backlight - press it briefly and each press steps it through a 3 stage brightness regime from dull (night-time) to full brightness (daytime). If you've done that and its still dull, I'd suggest you may have a screen problem and will need to talk to Lowrance on their 1800 number.
Best of luck

I assume from the replies so far that the colour on the GPS half of the screen should be as bright and colourful as on the sonar half. If so, sounds like he may have a faulty unit.
I've tried the various backlight levels of the on/off switch and also adjusted brightness and contrast controls.

I own the same unit and have had no trouble with it. Am i correct in saying that you are concerned about the map colours rather than the backlight? The map card color is slightly duller on my unit compared to the sonar side. However it poses no problem seeing it even in the bright sunlight.
Ide be taking it back to the dealer to get sorted out

Is the problem noticeable when set to full screen Map or full screen Sonar?. If not then you can probably eliminate the screen as the problem.
Have you tried zooming in and out on the Map? Does it make any difference?.
I have a similar but earlier model the 334c, but have never noticed any difference in screen brightness etc from one side or display option to the other?.
Cheers

mate is the screen like really really dark. you can see it just in the shade and not at all in the light??? everything else works OK....just cant see it!! Take it to a lowrance dealer and ask them to hook it up to there power in the shop and get them to have a look.
if so, the backlit screen is gone. (its not just as simple as changing a bulb either) I had this happen on an Eagle 640c (similar unit, same company) ....had to send it back under warranty to Lowrance USA. got replacement sounder head unit 10 days later. Had to send it back again for another problem a month later...thats another story!! cost me $52 bucks all up.....but i was without a sounder for a couple of months awaiting emails and return numbers etc. Thats a downside.
hope this helps, sorry if it is the case. Steve

It's probably more to do with the colours as you say. I'm comparing it to my Humminbird which uses different colours which make the land stand out from the different water depths. Colours like green, yellow and various blues. From what I remember the Lowrance uses more pastel type colours which are not as easy to see the changes. I would have thought seeing they both use Navionics charts they would display with the same colours.
The Lowrance is nothing like the brochures or adds in magazines so I'm not sure if he has a fault or not.
The only way to find out is to take it back to the dealer to compare.
Thanks for the help.

Sorry for my ignorance ....
We own a 27C, have no problems there and have had other Lowrance units in the past.
We currently don't have ours fitted (because of the reno) otherwise I would go, have a play and a look
From memory, can't you just "tweek" it in the set up menu ??
Cheers
