I have recently purchased a 987. In the instruction manual it shows arches as well as a fish symbol when fish ID is activated. I have only used it on 4 occasions but am yet to see any arches. I do get the fish symbols when activated but never an arch with or without fish ID activated. Has anyone experieced the same or do you get definate arches?

In a perfect world you will get fish arches. Mostly you will just get a coloured blob on your screen or an almost straight line which will represent a fish.

With Humminbirds fishID turned on, lower the Fish ID sensativity to 1. this will only show u the strongest readings of what will probably be fish. You will also see your raw data on the screen behind the fish.

Fish ID is good because on structures like a tree on the bottom, running over it at slow speeds the sounder will just show a big blob, but with fish id on and the senstivity of fish id set low it should show if there are fish inamongst that blob which you can't see on the raw data screen.
