Went down to the drain again today and had a pretty good session on livies. We decided to fish light today with me opting for my Bream stick with 3lb main, 6lb FC leader with my mate using 6lb leader. First fish was a 32cm Tarpon caught by Jordan which put on a few jumps. I then hooked a 46cm Tarpon 5 minutes after. Two Tarpon in 5 mins was a bit different but have heard of them being in plague proportions at times up this far.
Pulled a few small Catties and coupel of legal Bream then Jordan gets a nice hit and up comes a 60 odd cm Threadfin which rubs off the 6lb leader just before landing him. Typical size Thready for this area of the river but was good to watch on the light stuff. Soon after Jordan starts cranking his line in and at the same time my line shoots off. I figured he had caught my line by accident on the retrieve but I struck just in case anyway. The rod tip registers a few head kicks then a solid run. I called it for a big Catfish cause everything fights hard on 3lb. Got him to the bank and he goes on a another run when I see a flash of Red and up pops this devil. Missed a few and got busted by a few other beasts but that's fishing.
Stoked to get one this late in the season this far from the mouth :S . It was lacking the bulk the others I have got here had. Might just be the cold?
