Folks, I'm off to Fiji shortly staying on the coral coast for a week. I want to take some fishing gear but I cant take much due to better halfs objections. Has anyone got any advice?

yeah i know the warwick i stayed at the navitti i fished from the beach with plastics and did manage to pick up a few fish off the beach but nothing worth bragging about just the fish that wonder the sand. The reef at both resorts are dieing pretty quickly ( i think its bleaching but i dunno). your plastics get fairly chewed up so use some snapbacks so that way they last longer i used berkley powerbaits and every 1-2 fish i had to change plastics. they do offer 1 hour handline fishing where they take you out and you fish just ask them if you can use your rod and they will put you onto some nice little reefies.as you can see from that google earth pic it is a while before you get to the drop off and they only allow you a small area to use the kayaks in. beware they might tell you there is no sharks but on a low tide you can see them smacking fish in water less than 1m. sorry i am a bit tired and can't remmeber too much so sorry if its not that good the information i might think of someting and post it tomorrow.

Good stuff on the trip to Fiji, heading there later in the year to Naigani Island in August. A friend of mine stayed at the Warrick and of course he is a fishing nut so some rods got packed. Poppers and soft plastics are the way to go. What size gear do you want to take, as that will depend on size of lures. If your other half will let you take 2 outfits- one 10lb one 20 lb you will definately have some fun. Ant

I stayed at the Warwick on my honeymoon and arranged a half day sportfishing tour, which saved packing any fishing kit.
We booked straight through the resort (at the aquatic sports booking desk near one of the pools), scored some big dollies and tuna, and had a blast. We fished out of a 6.5m centre console if I remember and shared costs with another honeymooning couple.
Saved a lot of hassles.
Cheers
