Team - what observations do people have on the ir air compressors? I have been using a supercheap special for the last few years when inflating my tyres after beach trips.
As always, I want a reasonable one (speed of inflation is the key), without breaking the bank.
What type of compressor do people have and are they happy with it?
Cheers.

Mate the Bushranger series is fantastic - I use the second from the top of that line (I cant recall if its the Max) near the top of the tree in terms of inflation speed and longevity is very good. They are quiet too. I have used it many times over the last 4 years and my brother sells them in his 4WD business and that's all he sells.

I had a Red Bull engine mounted comp in one of my 4bys a few yrs ago. Without a doubt the best one Ive ever seen in operation. I should have removed it when i sold the truck. I fitted a 2cfm air tank reservoir under the tray and when charged it set tubeless tyres on the rim first time every time instantly. Fast and very high pressure (i set the reg to 120psi and it would blow off the prv.

But a $300 one from one of the fourby shops, expensive I know but never let you down and quick inflation. All four 235 x 16 tires from 16lb to 50lb in about 20 minutes. The engine bay ones are covered in mud and sand etc when you go away so I dont use them. I have a 12 volt outlet in the back of the hilux ute that I plug a TJM unit in to and works a treat, thats my experience anyway.

I have a bushranger as well, seems to be good unit. The supercheap ones look like a copy of the bushranger. If your in brisbane the 4wd and tinny show is on soon , that is where I bought mine from few years back and got a descent deal.

gidday rednut,
I use an american make called 'truck' rated for 275 PSI. i piced it up in Atherton. I've had it now for about 7 years, and is still going strong. i take it everywhere i go. in fact, it just stays in the back of the patrol wagon.

I got a twin cylinder cheapie from K Mart when they had one of those 25% off days. I think it cost me about $75 usually $100
High output, pumps up a 4b tyre in about 2 minutes.
Only used it a few times, so far so good, probably not built to last, but then I dont care as I will only be using it a couple of times a year.

Ive got one of the bushranger max air units. Got it on sale for about $400 right before they changed to the max air 2. I can air up all 4 tyres from about 17psi to 40 or so in less than 5 mins, and thats from getting out of the car to getting back in. Quick as. Keep in mind though they are only 30"ish tyres so not massive. Spend more and itll last you for a long time. And you can pump up all your mates tyres without the heat override coming in!

Im gonna speak for the Bushranger again.
Ive got a Max Air II installed under the bonnet. All four tyres from 16 to 36 ish in around 5 minutes. The no fuss warranty was what sold me in the end. 5yrs, no fuss, if it stops working they fix or replace.

I've got a ARB compressor mounted under the bonnet and it does the job. My mate has a Bushranger and it works excellent.

I've got the old ARB compressor under the bonnet to run the lockers and a bushranger for pumping up the tyres. I'll usually use the ARB one on the front and the bushranger on the back, it will do the rear much quicker than the ARB one.
The new ARB compressor is a gun, it's capacity for free flow is huge, and my mate with one can pump 2 33" tyres up in the time it takes me to do 1 32" tyre.
My bushranger is about 4 years old and still running like new even though it has been used a bit. I always end up lending it to mates who don't have one at the end of a run.
