Hey guys, Trent and i went out the front here in Mackay yesterday but was very quite, so on the way back in to the boat ramp we had a quick flick to try and get some whiting on poppers.

About 3rd cast in my little rebel popper got belted in a pretty good explosion in about 40cm of water and took off. This thing definately wasn't a Whiting, and after a good lil tussle a 74cm Flaty came aboard for a few quick snaps before watchin her swim away. 2mins later it was time for double hookup flaty action, as i saw i watched in dismay as another flatty followed my popper before belting it right in front of us, then Trent watched one belt his popper, Trents going 54cm and min 38cm, both released.

After that we had a couple of other follows and hit and misses. We were amazed at how aggresively they smashed our poppers, making a hell of a lot of noise, more so than a Jack.

We were using a straight forward bloop and pause action, tide was runing out and had just drained the flats, so the Flatty's were quite active...

Cheers

Those flatties certainly push a bit of water when they smash the surface lures. Some nice fish Matt good on ya.

Great stuff Matt,

Flathead certainly hit poppers hard. I've only got a few, but they were memorable.

Keep up the good work,

Cheers boys. Not much beats a Flaty riseing from sand to smash a popper.

Pete, the palaegic scene in close (just outside the river mouth) has heated up ova the last week or so, after all the fresh has decipated. The Longtails were on fire last week, not the monsters you get in Moreton Bay, but good fun all the same. We got them on poppers, slugs and plastic. Also a few dirty Macs about. We have experienced only little spotty's, still yet to good spotty action here in Mackay. Got a good trout on a squidy. pics attached.

Cheers

very nice what depth of water where you guys in

The depth that the flatties came from was less than a metre, just as the last of water drained the flats
